Description

Jan. 4, 1949. F. ROSIELLO COMBINED COMB AND HAIR CURLER Filed Jan. 29, 1946 F I-E'll l N VEN TOR. WAW f as/z4a,
Patented Jan. 4, 1949 UNHTED STATES PATENT FFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to an improved hair comb, and one of its objects is to provide a combine with a hair curler, which forms a handle for the comb, and which is reversible to produce different sizes of curls.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a combined hair comb and hair curler, wherein the comb is provided with a shank having coupling means or a screw thread thereon, and the hair curler is formed of tubular stock with a plurality of external diameters, and may be coupled on the shank of the comb with the smaller end disposed nearest the comb, or the larger end disposed nearest the comb, so that the hair after being combed may be wound on the curler and the diameter of the formed curl preferred may be obtained.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view, showing the curler in section, with the small end nearest the comb.
Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the curler reversed on the comb.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the combined curler and comb.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side view of the comb, showing the screw threaded shank thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the practical embodiment of the invention, 5 designates a comb having a longitudinal frame bar 6 and a series of lateral teeth 1 formed on and extending from one side only thereof.
The frame bar 6 is extended endwise to provide a tapered handle shank 8, and this shank is formed with external screw threads 9, and provided with a shoulder [9. The screw threads 9 are formed on a cylindrical enlargement of the tapered shank.
The shank 8 is adapted to receive the tubular curler body I l, which is formed-with a cylindrical hole I la of uniform diameter, and provided with internal screw threads Hb in each end thereof, either set of screw threads being adapted to have coupling engagement with the external screw threads 9 of the tapered handle shank 8.
The curler body I i is formed with a cylindrical section I I0 of one diameter and a cylindrical section lid of a larger diameter, one section being approximately equal in length to that of the other section. When the curler body H is coupled to the handle 8 of the comb it provides an extension handle for the comb and one of larger diameter, which enables the user of the comb to grip the handle to better advantage to pull the comb through matted hair filaments.
As shown in Fig. 1, the smaller cylindrical section He is located adjacent the hair comb, and the hair would be wound from the comb over this smaller section. In Fig. 2 the larger section is located adjacent the comb, and the hair would be wo'und over this section to produce a hair curl of larger diameter.
The coupled end .of the curler body ll abuts against the shoulder 19, so that the curler body will be tightly secured on the handle shank of the comb, and thus provide an extended handle for the comb.
With my invention a girl or woman may comb her hair and thus straighten out the hair filament, and then wind the hair upon the handle of the comb, so as to produce a hair curl of the required diameter. By using additional curler tubes of different diameters, a large range of curl forms may be provided.
It is understood that various changes may be made in the construction shown, and that all materials useful for the purpose may be employed in such combinations and arrangements to carry out the invention, as may be embraced by the claims hereof, which define the invention.
Having described the invention, I claim as new:
A hair comb having a tapered handle extending from one end thereof and an externally threaded portion at the inner end of said handle and a shoulder at the inner end of said externally threaded portion, a handle extension for the comb handle having a uniform cylindrical bore with internal screw threads in each end thereof engageable with the externally threaded portion of the comb, said handle extension having cylindrical hair curler surfaces on the opposite end portions thereof of different diameters capable of forming different sized hair curls by winding hair strands thereon, the end of the handle extension threaded on the comb handle engaging the shoulder of the comb handle to rigidly connect the handle extension to the comb.
