A curling device comprising an elongated tubular member, a rod extending through said tubular member and projecting from the ends thereof, members attached to the projecting ends of said rod and means for clutching one of said last mentioned members to said tubular member, the outer .surface of said tubular member. having adjacent pairs of oppositely disposed truncated vconical portions.

A curling device comprising an elongated tubular member, a rod extending through said tubular member and projecting from the ends thereof, a pair of members attached to the projecting ends of said rod and means for clutching one of said last mentioned members to said tubular member, the other of said pair of members being formed with a transverse slot, said tubular member being formed with oppositely disposed conical surfaces.

A curling device comprising a tubular member having a generally taperingl portion and a cylindrical portion at one end extending from the tapering portion, a member received on one end ofA said tubular member and having a socket rotatably receiving said cylindrical portion, said cylindrical portion having an annular groove,

A curling device comprising an elongated tubular member having .a plurality of adjacent pairs of oppositely disposed truncated conical surfaces of. graduallyV decreasing diameters longitudinally, said tubular member having a cylindrical portion at one end thereof, a rod extending through said tubular vmember and beyond the ends thereof, a member xedto one end of ,said rod, and a member screwed to the Opposite end o f. said rod and rotatably receivingr said cylindrical portion,` said cylindrical portion being formed with an annular groove, and a spring within said groove iixed at one end thereof to the bottom or said groove and the-opposite end ofgsaid spring contacting saidlast member.

A curling device comprising an elongated tubular member having pairs of oppositely ydisposed truncated conical surfaces of longitudinally decreasing diameter, said member having an axial opening, a rod extending through ,said opening and extending beyond the ends thereof, men bers attached tothe projectingends of said rod, and means for permitting rotation of one of said las-tfmentioned members with respect to said tubular member, in one direction and Ypreventing rotation of said member wit-h respect to said tubular member inthe opposite direction.

7. A device for use in permanent hair Waving apparatus including a rod of generally tapering form and having shallow surface grooves in succession from near the scalp end, the grooves being formed between portions of truncated cone-like forms set base-to-base.
