Description

I. BOGUT POT SUSPENSION DEVICE Nov. 9, 1948.
Filed June 21, 1945 INVENTOR.
[gzz as 50 242 ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 9, 1948 2,453,189 ro'rsosrnlvsionpavicn Ignatius Bogut, South Orange, N. J.
Application June 21, 1945, Serial No. 600,766
1 Claim.
In the painting, window cleaning and analogous industries, it is necessary to have access to the pots while standing on ladders.
It is the object of this invention to provide a pot suspension device which is especially adapted for use in the industries and for the purposes above set forth and for analogous purposes, which may be readily positioned on the rung of a ladder to suspend the pot adjacent one of the sides of the ladder, in position for convenient access.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is efficient and positive in operation and may be readily manufactured at low cost.
These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly shown in the drawings, illustrating embodiments of my invention, and in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the device of my invention applied to a ladder, showing a pot suspended from the device,
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view of said device, and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the device generally corresponding with that shown in Fig. 1, but
showing the bearing plate rotated 180 from the position of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the device of my invention is shown to comprise a bearing plate Ill which is provided at the opposite vertical marginal edges thereof with elongated bearings H and I2 coextensive therewith. An arcuate hook member 13 is rotatably positioned in the bearing l2, the free end of said hook member adapted to be positioned on one of the rungs R of the ladder L, the other end thereof having an enlarged head I adapted to abut the lower edges l5 of the plate iii.
A pin I6 is rotatably journalled in the bearing H, said pin having an enlarged head I! at one end thereof of greater diameter than the cross sectional dimensions of said bearing portion l l and the other end I8 of said pin passing freely through the bearing and terminating in a loop l9.
A ring member 20 is freely positioned in the loop [9, said ring member having a transverse aperture 2| for the reception of shank 22 of fastener 23 to rotatably journal said fastener in said ring member and to providefor the universal movement of said fastener relative to the plate H]. The fastener 23 is provided with an open throat portion 2 3. A spring finger 25 is fixed at one end in the fastener 23 adjacent the shank of the fastener so as to normally urge the other free end of said spring finger against the free end of the throat portion 24 to normally close the same under tension.
As shown in Fig. 1, the device is suspended on the ladder by positioning the hook IS on the rung R of the ladder with the plate HI positioned on the side member S which is perpendicular to the rungs of the ladder, said rungs being fixed at one end to said side member. The pot P is suspended on the device by snapping the bail B of said pot into the throat 24 of the fastener 23 (the spring finger 25 being momentarily depressed to open said throat) and the pot P will rest against the side S of the ladder as indicated in Fig. 1.
The plate l0 may be a single plate or may be bent on itself to define a double thickness with the bearing portions II and 12 formed on the marginal edges of said plate by any suitable manufacturing expedient, the walls of said plate being united by rivets 26 or other suitable expedient to maintain the plate in the form shown in Fig. 1.
The bearings I l and I2 and the portions of pins 46 and hook l3 passing therethrough are of generally circular cross section as shown in Fig. 2. The bearing I2, however, is preferably provided with a portion 21 of non-circular cross section with which a portion 28 of the hook member 13 of corresponding cross section is adapted to have keying action to maintain the plate in the position shown in Fig. 1 and to permit of the interlocking of the portion 28 of member i3 and portion 2i of bearing 12 at a position therefrom as shown in Fig. 5, this end being attained simply by dis placing the plate from the head 23 as in Fig. 4, rotating the plate (per dotted line) and then positioning the latter into engagement with the head 28, as in Fig. 5, This arrangement is desirable for the reason that the device may thereby be suspended at the right hand side of the ladder as in Fig. 1 and permits the same to be shifted to the lefthand side of the ladder by displacing the plate and rotating the same as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
The parts described may be made of any suitable material, and numerous variations thereof will be readily suggested by the disclosure herein made; all such variations coming Within the scope of the appended claim, will be deemed to be within the scope and purview of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I accordingly suspend the pot at different positions claim as new and desire to secure by Letters relative to the hook. 7 Patent is: IGNATIUS BOGUT.
