Application March 2, 1939, Serial No. 259,359 12 Claims. (01. 16-172) My invention relates to sash hangers and has metal which is stamped out to provide two semifor an object to provide a sash hanger which will circular base portions 2| and 22. These base porprevent rattling of the sash with which it is used. tions together form a base which I have indi- Another object of the invention resides in procated by the reference numeral I9. These hooks are formed Another object of the invention resides in prowith recesses 25 which provide crotches 26 and viding a sash hanger which can be readily manuwhich form wings 21 extending outwardly beyond factured and which does not use a great amount said crotches. The wings 21 are constructed with 10 of material. curved outer edges 28 which serve as cams and.
An object of the invention resides in providing function in a manner to be presently more fully a fixed member having a pair of spaced hooks described. The upper ends of the hooks 23 and yieldingly held in position and in further provld- 24 are connected together by means of a coning a pivoted member secured to the sash for ennector 29 which consists of a portion of the metal gagement with said hooks and held from lateral from which the entire fixed member I1 is conmovement with respect thereto through the said structed. The connector 29 is relatively narrow hooks of the fixed member. and yieldingly connects the two hooks together Another object of the invention resides in 'conto permit of a slight springing together of the 2o structing the pivoted member with a tongue two hooks. Such action is further facilitated by adapted to engage between the hooks for guiding means of two slits 3| formed in the lowermost the pivoted member into engagement with the portions of said hooks and disposed in close proxfixed member. imity to the base portions 2| and 22. The fixed member I1 is held attached to the In the drawings: header |2 of frame H) by means of screws 34 which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a pass through suitable holes in the base portions 3!) window showing a window frame and storm sash 2| and 22 and which are situated in close proxand illustrating my invention applied thereto. imity to the connector 29., These screws serve as Fig. 2 is an elevational view of a portion of the pivots on which the entire base portions 2| and structure shown in Fig. l and illustrating the 22 may pivot to facilitate movement of the butt sash in closed position. portions 33 of the hooks 23 and 24 together. These slots accommodate movement of the base Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the portions toward and from each other and at the 10 method of hanging the sash. same time hold the base portions firmly seated 40 For the. purpose of illustrating the application against the header l2. of my invention 1 have shown a portion of a The pivoted member I8 is constructed from a window frame H) in Fig. 1 which includes a vertistrip of sheet metal which is provided with a cal frame member and a header |2 connected base 31 resting upon the stile M of sash Hi. This thereto. Within the frame I9 is a sash |3 which base is secured to the said stile by means of 45 includes a stile l4 and an upper rail I5 connected screws 38 which pass through said base and are therewith. The pane of glass N5 of the sash screwed into the stile. The pivoted member I8 is |3 is mounted in thestiles and rails of the sash constructed with an off-set 39 from which issues in the customary manner. a head 4|. The head 4| has an opening 42 in it,
so My invention comprises a fixed member I1 which opening forms a cross bar 43 and two side so which is attached to the header l2 of frame l0 arms or lateral portions 44 and 45. The cross bar and a pivoted member l8 which is attached to 43 is constructed with two shoulders 46 and 41 the stile M of the sash |3. These parts will now and with a free upper edge 59. The arms 44 and be described in detail. 45 are formed with inwardly facing edges 48 and.
The fixed member I1 is constructed from sheet 49. Issuing inwardly from the centerof the cross 55 This tongue is of a width distance between the two is bent outwardly from and toward the window While so arranged the tongue holds the pivoted in proper position to be engaged by As the sash is elevated the edge 50 the shoulders 46 and d? be received within the crotches 26, as shown in. Fig. 1. The distance between the edges 48 and 69 of the side arms 44 and 65 is less than the maximum width across the butt portions 33 of hooks Z3 and 24 and greater than the minimum width across the tips 32 of said hooks. As the sash is swung into closing position the edges 48 and 49 engage the curved edges 28 of the wings 21 of said hooks and force the two hooks together. This causes the pivoted member I! of the hanger to: be rigbaseportions of the fixed member swing to accommodate such movement of the hooks. When it is desired to remove the sash, the sash is merely swung outwardly and raised until the cross bar 43 becomes disengaged from the hooks 23 and 24.
The advantages of my invention are manifest. The sash hanger is easily applied to the sash and window frame in which the sash is used. hanger may be used with any type of pivoted sash such as storm sash, screen windows or any outwardly opening sash. With my inveninto position so that the same readily becomes engaged with the fixed member.
Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent 1s:
1. A sash hanger comprising a fixed member wo hooks yieldingly held in spaced regage said hooks in. the crotches thereof, and with lateral portions adapted to engage said hooks on opposite sides thereof and to urge the same toward one another.

10. A sash hanger comprising a constructed from sheet metal and formed to provide a base with two hooks projecting outwardly therefrom, said hooks being disconnected from" said base at corresponding endsof the hooks to cause the hooks to flex, and a pivoted member formed with shoulders for engagement with said hooks and with lateral portions for engagement with the free ends of the hooks, said hooks restraining lateral movement of the pivoted mem-' ber.
11. A sash hanger comprising a fixed member having a base provided with flanges issuing outwardly therefrom, said flanges having vertically extending outer edges, said edges of the flanges having recesses therein forming hooks, said hooks tongue remaining fixed member I being spaced from one another and free from each other throughout said denoted edges thereof and at the locality thereof, and a pivoted member formed with spaced shoulders adapted to engage said edges of said hooks, said edges guiding the shoulders into said recesses upon raising of the sash and a tongue between said shoulders adapted to enter between aid flanges and to restrain lateral movement of the pivoted member during the aforesaid raising of the sash, said in position between said flanges while the pivoted member is being applied to the fixed member.
12. A sash hanger comprising a fixed member constructed to provide two separate base portions with spaced vertically extending flanges projecting outwardly therefrom, a connector at the upper ends of said flanges, said flanges being free from one another below said connector, said flanges below the connector having hooks formed therein, said hooks having outer edges extending continuously up to the crotches thereof and being free from each other throughout the extent of said edges at the locality of said edges, and a pivoted member formed with two spaced shoulders adapted to engage said edges, said edges guiding the shoulders into engagement with the crotches of the hooks upon raising of the sash, and a tongue on said pivoted member disposed between said shoulders and adapted to enter between said flanges and to restrain lateral movement of the pivoted member during the aforesaid raising of the sash, said tongue remaining in position between said flanges while the pivoted member is being applied to the fixed member.
