Description

March 22, 1960 R. s. HERZBERG TOWEL HOOK DEVICE Filed July 10. 1956 Fig.2
United States Patent M TOWEL HOOK DEVICE Rune Sigfrid Herzberg, Jonkoping, Sweden Application July 10, 1956, Serial No. 596,997
2 Claims. (Cl. 211-89) This invention relates to towel hook devices and especially to such devices, in which the towel is to be laid or positioned over a horizontal arm or bar.
An object of the invention is to provide an arrangement to hold the towel firmly in the hook device and for that purpose the horizontal arm is carried pivotally about a vertical shaft and the device has a horizontal downwardly directed flange means and a lock device adapted to detachably hold the arm close below the outer edge of said means in order that the towel may be pressed between the arm and the flange means.
The above and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, which shows an illustrative embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a towel hook device according to the invention with the arm in a locked position, and
Figure 2 shows a similar view with the arm in a swung out position.
The shown towel hook device comprises a vertical plate 2 attached to a wall by means of screws 1. which plate may carry a plurality of hooks 3 for towels. In ears 4 extending outwardly from the plate a horizontal arm 5 is swingably carried in a bearing around a vertical shaft 6, which suitably is made integral with the arm. Adjacent the free end of the arm there is a notch 7 which cooperates with a plate spring 8 of a suitable shape and the spring is attached to the plate 2. Thus, the plate spring 8 together with the notch 7 forms a lock device by means of which the notch carrying end of the arm may be detachably attached to the plate. A helical spring 9 is positioned around the shaft 6, attached to the ear 4 and functions to swing normally the arm away from the plate 2. By an easy pressure on the plate spring 8, the free end of the arm will be detached after which the helical spring 9 swings the arm on the plate 2 to the position shown in Figure 2, in which a towel or sheet positioned over the arm may easily be lifted from the arm or again laid over the arm.
The arm is conveniently bent to such a shape that the arm between the shaft 6 and the lock 7, 8 is spaced from the wall 2 as shown on Figure 2.
According to the invention a horizontal plate 10 is attached to or integral with the upper margin of the vertical plate, and the horizontal plate is provided with a Patented Mar. 22, 1960 flange 11 along the free edge thereof. In the locked position of the arm 5, the flange 11 is close over the arm, so that a towel, sheet or similar article positioned over the arm will be pressed between the arm and said flange as is shown in Figure 1. In a swung out position of the arm as shown in Figure 2, the arm is at a distance from the horizontal plate 10, so that the plate 10 will not prevent the removal of the towel from the arm or its placing over the arm.
Near its free ends the arm may carry hooks 12, which are turned from the respective ends and which prevent the towel from sliding along the arm past the ends.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a horizontally disposed arm over which a towel may be positioned, a vertical shaft to which one of the ends of the arm is affixed, a supporting means, means journalling the shaft and arm to the supporting means for horizontal swinging movement relative to the supporting means, a horizontal plate having a downturned flange carried by the supporting means, with said flange lying adjacent the arm when the arm is positioned parallel to the supporting means, and complemental means on the free end of the arm and the supporting means to lock the arm in its position parallel to the supporting means wherebythe towel. posi tioned over the arm is tightly squeezed between the arm and the flange when the arm is locked in its position parallel to the supporting means.
2. In a device of the character described, a horizontally disposed arm over which a towel may be positioned, a vertical shaft to which one of the ends of the arm is affixed, a vertical plate constituting a supporting means, means journalling the shaft and arm to the vertical plate for horizontal swinging movement relative to the vertical plate, a horizontal plate having a downturned flange secured to the upper margin of said vertical plate, with said flange lying adjacent the arm when the arm is positioned parallel to the vertical plate, and complemental means on the free end of the arm and the vertical plate to lock the arm in its position parallel to the vertical plate whereby the towel positioned over the arm is tightly squeezed between the arm and the flange where the arm is locked in its position parallel to the vertical plate.
