UNITED STATES ROBERT J. COWELL, or sit. 'grosnrn, mrssounr.
1,545,740 PATENT OFFICE.
POT AND BUCKET HOLDER.
Application filed September 15, 1924. Serial No. 737,834.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT J. OowELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at St- Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pot and Bucket Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a pot and bucket holder and one object is to provide a sim ple and inexpensive device of this character which can be readily applied to a windowframe for the purpose of reliably supporting a bucket of water within convenient reach of a window washer sitting or standing upon the window-sill.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which may be readily suspended from the rung of a ladder, or like support, for the purpose of holding a painters pot within convenient reach of a work man on the ladder.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows the device applied to a window frame for supporting a bucket of water.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line IIII of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the device suspended from a ladder for holding a paint bucket or the like.
Referring now in detail to the various parts shown by the drawing, A designates a window frame, B one of the vertical stops of said frame, C one of the sash which operates between the stops, and D the sill. All of the foregoing are of well-known construction, the invention residing in the holder which will now be described in detail.
2 designates an arm which is provided at one end with a hook 4 and at its opposite end with an angular offset 6 terminating in a spur 8 projecting towards the end of the arm having the book 4. The arm 2 is bent laterally from its intermediate portion to its angular portion 6 as indicated at 10, so that when applied to the stop B as shown by Figs. 1 and 2 the spur 8 will engage the rear surface of said stop.
1.2 designates a prong extending obliquely from the intermediate portion of the arm 2 and arranged in the same vertical plane as the spur 8 for engaging the front side of the stop B as shown.
. l4 designates a hanger for supporting a bucket such as E. Said hanger 14 consists of a rod 16, a snap hook 18 and a universal oint 20 connecting the rod 16 and the hook 18. The rod 16 is threaded or otherwise removably secured in an enlargement 22 at the the forward end of the arm 2.
In practice when the device is to be secured to a stop B the adjacent window sash G is raised or lowered to permit the spur 8 to engage the rear side of said stop B. During this operation the arm 2 is held inan inclined position, so that the prong 12 may clear the front side of the stop B after which the forward end of the arm is lowered to cause the prong 12 to engage said stop. Slight downward pressure is then applied to the forward end of the arm 2 to cause the spur 8 and the prong 12 to enter the respective sides of the stop B and thus not only reliably support said arm 2 in operative position, but also a bucket of water which may be suspended by its bail F from the snap book 18. The weight of the bucket of water causes the spur 8 and the prong 12 to enter the stop B more deeply and thereby reliably support the arm 2 and its load. The universal joint 20 permits the bucket E to be turned axially, .so that the bail F will not be in the way of a window washer when placing a sponge or other window washing element in the water contained by said bucket. I
In Fig.3, I have shown the device suspended by its hook 4 from one of the rungs G of the ladder H, while a pot or bucket I is suspended from the offset 6 where it is reliably held by the spur 8. When used with a ladder as shown and described, the hanger 14 may be removed from the enlargement 22.
From the foregoing description it is apparent that I have produced a pot or bucket holder which may be used either inside or outside by window washers, building washers and painters; and while I have shown and described the preferred construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I reserve the right to make-such changes I as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: g V
A device of the character described con- I sisting of an arm having an angular portion at its rear terminating in a forwardly projecting spur adapted to enten the rear por tion of a support, a p'rOngeXtend-in'g dCiWnwardly and rearwardly from said arm and adapted to enter the front portion of said support and thereby coact with saidspur in firmly holding the arm in position, trod de= pending from said arm, a hook, and a universal connection between the fed and said hook to permit the latter to rotate independently of the former. W
-In testimony whereof I aflix my signa ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
