RINGLET HAIR CURLER`` Frank Interrante, Brooklyn, N. Y. Application September 27, 1946, seri; No. 899,805
12 Claims.
The present invention relates to a hair curler and refers more particularly to a device of the type suitable for making ordinary curls or ringlet curls, The ringlet curl is a small tight curl comprising comparatively short lengths of hair and located closelto the scalp of the wearer. In theabsence of proper equipment, it is quite difficult to form. Forming a ringlet curl involves curling the hair in a tight ring close tothe scalp and holding it in that position by a hair pin or bobby pin 4extending diametrally of the curl until the curl can set.
`An object of the present invention is to provide a ringlet hair curlerof extremely simple design without moving parts.
I A further object is that the ringlet hair curler may be usable tomake ordinary curls.
Still another object is that the hair curler shall be inexpensive to manufacture and simple to use.
Another and further object is the provision of means facilitating the gripping of the ringlet in the fingers together with the bobby pirror hair pin just previous to slipping it' off the hair curler.
`'In accomplishing the objects of the present invention, a generally cylindrical body is provided with diametrically opposed slots extending the entire length thereof along the outside surface. These slots are connected for not quite half their length by aidiametral slot forthe insertion ofv the hair pin or bob'by pin preliminary to picking the curl off the curler. A second andnarrower diametral slot extends perpendicularly to the first diametral slot and has a widely tapering mouth. Saidslot is for the purpose of catching the hair in order to start the curl.
In a modified form of the invention, at least one of the long surface slots is enlarged substantially midway its length for the purpose of facilitating gripping the ringlet With the fingers in order to slip it off the curler.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same, being a view revolved 90 from Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the devicein use with a curl of hair `'and a bobby pin, the latter' being shownin :full and broken 'lines in two positions. o l
Fig; 7 is a perspective view of `ythe device with a bobby pin inserted prelirninary to removing a ringlet curl therefrom.`
' Flg. 8 is a side elevation of awsecondformof the invention.
Fig. 9 is a side elevation of the sam'eQ'beingV a view revolved from l'ig.` 8. i
Referring now i`n` detail to the drawings, the improved ringlet haircurler IO comprises a] generally cylindrical body H formed with diametrically opposed surface slots IZ and |3 extending substantially the entire 'length thereof. A diametral slot |4 extendingfnotvquite half the length of body l I joins surface slots |2 and l3.v A second diametral slot `|5 extends perpendicular to slot i 4, is narrower and shorter than the latter and has a widel'ytapered mouth |6.
In operation, the end of the hair is caughtin slot |5 being led thereinto through a wide mouth I 6 and pinched therein so that thefcurler may be revolved and a curl formed thereon.
To form ordinary curls, a hair pin' or bobby pin ll is insertedin slot |2 or l3, as shown in Fig. 6, one prongthereof passing under the curl |8 and the other passing over it. A very long and heavy curl can be thus: gripped by a bobby pin or hair pm.` A w To form a ringlet curl, the hair is bunched on the curler `l 0 so as to occupy very little space longitudinally thereof, as shown in Fig. '7, and one prong of a hobby pin or 'hair pin` |`9 is passed to either side of the ringlet 20 extending diametrally thereof and of curler ID through slot 14. The ringlet 20 may then be removed from the curler by sliding pin |9 outward from slot M or to the left of Fig. 7.
In a modified form of the invention, the curler 30 comprises a substantially cylindrical body 3| formed with longitudinally extending . surface slots 32 and 33, the latter being joined for substantially half their length by the diametral slot 34. Curler 30 is further formed with the shorter and narrower slot 35 provided with a widely tapered mouth 36. Slots 32 and 33 at a point approximately midway their length are widened or enlarged as at 31, as shown in Figs. 8 and 9. 'I'his widening or enlargement of slots 32' and :33 permits the ringlet 2|] to be more easily grasped for the purpose of sliding it off the curler.
A While I have illustrated and described the preferred em'bodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modlfications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the apiended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
