24 disposed within a slot in the body portion 2|, the said catch being pivoted adjacent the handle portion 22 as at 26. Theiree end of the catch member 24 is provided with an outwardly extending tooth 21 which is engageable in any one of a plurality of keeper openings 28 provided in the walls of the tubular body H. The keeper openings 28 are arranged in the same circumferential plane and at relatively close spaced distances so that after the body portion 2| .of the winding" key is inserted'lnto the cage-like body II, the tooth 21 will snap into one of the keeper openings 28 by a slight turning of the key merry; ber relative to the curler member. A leaf spring I 29 has one of its ends fixed to the bodyp'ortion'- 2| and its other end extending intotheslot 2 5,
to press against the catch 24 in order'tonrge the toothed end of the catch member outwardly. The catch member 24 is provided with an out wardly extending finger piece 30 adjacent the handle portion '22 to facilitate depressing of the catchmember 24. in order to releaseathe'itooth -21 from its engaging recess.

' In practice, the curler 1 member A', andthe winding key member B are connected together in the manner shown'in Figuresl. and-'2; wherein the tooth 21 of the'catch24is in oneof the keeper openings 28, thus thetwo-parts are; locked together so that turning of the ,winding key memberB williimpart a correspon'dingwindi ng movement tothe' curler memberEA; .The:first step *for producing a-curl by the use ofl this deviceis to depress the finger piece: 34' as- :sho'wni in dotted lines in Figure 1 in order to. open. the clamping jaw 3|. The tress .ofzhair. is prepared land. the free end of the-hair is placed beneath'the' open jaws .31 and the'operatorreleases-the pressure upon the finger-piece whereby the spring 33 holds the jaw portion 31 against the free end of the tress of hair. irWithonehand.gripping the knurled portion23. oithe-keymember' B..whil e the other hand-grasps the head 15; thezoperator. proceeds .to:turn.-the key member B toiwind the tressof hair about the cage-likebody'l lofthe curler member A. taneously depresses the catch 24 by pressing downwardly on the manipulating portion 30, thus releasing the tooth 21 from its keeper opening 28 and proceeds to pull outwardly upon the handle portion 22 to separate the winding key member B from its engagement with the curler member A. The curler member A remains upon the head of the user until such time as the curl has been formed. The curler member A is secured ,to the hair against accidentalunwinding and separation by the clamping eflect'of the bobbylike pin clip 16. After the wound hair has set, the free end of the clip I6 is pulled outwardly to release its grip from the outer convolutions of the wound hair and the curler member A is cage," the curler member is made lighter and also.
