(o1.1s2 3s) The subject matter of the present invention-is an improved hair curler of the type having hingedly associated hair clamping components about which hair 'is spirally wound and an important objectth r'eof is to provide rotatable means journaled in one of said componentsto removably sustain the normally closed juxtapositioned arms of a hair pin widely separated to conveniently permit transferoi the spirally wound hair or curl about the components therefrom to one of the arms of the hair pin. The invention has as'another object the provision of rotatable means journaled in one of the components andhaving means for removably holding a corrugated arm of the hair pin on a bias and spaced from the rectilinear arm of the, hair pin whereby the hair curled about the components may be slidably shifted to be freefof the compo nents and arranged or threaded on the'rectilinear arm whereby upon separation of the hair pin from the rotatable means thecorugated arm of the hair pin automatically retracts and serves as l clamping means to hold the enrich the rectilinear arm. ,Pursuant to removal or disengagement of the hair pin loop from the rotatable head, the corrugated'or reinforced arm-automatically retracts or. closes and resiliently clamps and holds the curl now threadedonthe rectilinear arm of the loop. Hence it is apparent that although the curl is formed by revolvingthe swingable complements I! and I2 relative to the closure, the curl afterforming thereof maybe readily transferred to thehair pin to be clamped by the latter but free of the-curler. 3 ,7

While the invention has been described in detail and reference has ,been made to specific applications thereof, it is to be understood that the invention herein disclosed is not limited to such specific applications and it isintended that all matter contained in the above description and shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not .in a limiting sense. 3. In combination, a hair curler, a hair pin comprising normally closed juxtapositioned arms, and a member rotatably mounted on said curler and having an opening and a slot for holding said arms separated.

4. In combination, a hair curler, a hair pin, a head journaled in said curler and having means for holding adjacent parts of said pin, separated. and means to prevent displacement of said head longitudinally of said curler. I

In combination, a hair curler, a hair pin having a pair of normally closed and juxtapositioned arms, a barrel rotatablysustained by said curler and having an opening for removably sustaining one of said arms and including a biased notched portion for removably anchoring the other arm of said pair.

In combination, a resilient hair pin having a pair'of shanks and a loop connecting said shanks,- a hair curler, and rotatable means in adapted to be diverged by. said rotatable'means upon insertion'of one of said'shankstherein to arrange the other shank of said pair outside thereof, the last mentioned shank having a'free unsupported terminal and spatially overlying said curlerat an oblique angle in respect to the longitudinal axis thereof.

In combination, a hair pin having'apair of normally closed shanks, and a hair curler in-' cluding rotatable shank spreading means at one end thereof having an opening, one'of said shanks adapted to be received in said openingwhereby said rotatable spreading means diverges said shanks todispose the latter in a straddling gripping engagement with said means for arranging the terminal of the other shank of said pair in a free and unsupported relation outside of said curler whereby said curler maybe rotated relative to said shanks, said rotatable means being disposed longitudinally of said curler and rotatably sustained by the latter.

22. In combination, a resilienthair pin having a pair of normally closed shanks and a loopzconnecting said shanks, ahair curler having a ro-- tatabl'e tip including an opening for receiving one of said shanks and including shank spreading means for diverging said shanks to'dispose said loop in a closely straddling and gripping and removable engagement therewith, said tip char acterizing terminal means disposed longitudinally of said curler at one end thereof, and mea'ns'rotatably sustaining said terminal means.

23. A curling device having a rotatable I end, said end having an opening shaped to receive one shank of a hair pin or bobby pin, said endhaving means shaped to hold the other shank of the hair pin or bobby pin external to said curling device and at an angle to the longitudinal axis thereof, said rotatable end characterizing terminal means disposed longitudinally of and atone end of said curling device, and means rotatably holding said terminal means.

'24. A curling device having a rotatable end, said end having an opening shaped-to receive one shank of a hair pin or bobby pin, said end having means shaped to hold the other shank of the hair pin or bobby pin external to said curlingndevice and at an angle to the longitudinal axis thereof,

In combination, a resilient hair pin having 'a pair of normally closed shanks, a hair curler other shank of said pair in afree and unsupported relation outside of said curler and obliquely'relative to the longitudinal axis thereof, said pin having means connecting said shanks and disposed outside of said rotatable means during rotation of said curler relative to said shanks and rotatable means, said rotatable means being disposed longitudinally of said curler at one end thereof, and means rotatably sustaining said rotatable means. i

26. In combination, a hair pin having a pair of normally closed shanks, a hair curlerhaving rotatable means including an opening for receiving one of said shanks and including exteriorly disposed spreading means for diverging said shanksto dispose the latter in'a closely straddling and gripping engagement with said means for arranging the terminal of the other-shank of :said pair in a free and unsupported relation outside of said curler and obliquely relative to the longitudinal axis of said curler, said pin having means resiliently connecting said shanks and disposed outside of said means during rotation of said curler relative to said shanks and rotatable means, said rotatable means being disposed longitudinally of said curler at one end thereof, and means rotatably sustaining said rotatable means. 1

27. In combination, a hair curler, a hair pin having resiliently controlled and normally closed shanks, and rotatable shank spreading'means carried by said curler, s'aid spreading means and pin adapted to be held stationary during rotation longitudinally thereof.

28. In combination, a resilient hairpin having .a pair of normally closed shanks and a loop con necting said shanks, a hair curler, and rotatable means carried by said curler for holding'the terminal of one of said shanks outside of said I curler and at an oblique angle thereto at a time when the other shank of said pair is at least partly within said rotatable means at which time said loop projects outside of said curler, said curler having means rotatably sustaining said rotatable means at one end and longitudinally thereof.
