BRUSH ATTACHMENT FOR MOP HANDLES Filad July 6, 1945 6, llanmn IN V EN TOR.
Patented Apr. 6, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRUSH ATTACHMENT FOR. MOP HANDLES Charles J. Larson, Warren, Minn.
Application July 6, 1945, Serial No. 603,482
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a brush head designed for use with the usual mop handle and mop clamp, the primary object of the invention being to provide a brush head which is interchangeable with mop handles, eliminating the necessity of providing a handle and clamp for each mop or brush head, thereby reducing space necessary for storing the brush and mop, to a minimum, and at the same time appreciably re duclng the cost of a mop and brush.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character including a steadying rod which has adjustable connection with the handle, the lower end of the rod being removably held within an opening of the brush head.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of contruction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a brush head constructed in accordance with the invention, the brush head being shown as clamped to' one end of a mop handle.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the brush head and attaching end of the mop handle.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates a brush head, which is supplied with an attaching strip 6 which is of a semirigid character, the attaching strip being secured to the brush head, by means of the bolts 1 which pass through openings in the brush head and attaching strip.
The attaching strip is of a length so that when the strip is secured to the head at points adjacent to the ends of the strip, a central loop 8 is formed, the loop being designed to cooperate with the clamp of the usual mop, in securing the brush to the handle of a mop. The attaching strip is of a width to be readily clamped by the clamp 9 of the mop, which includes a stationary member I!) and a movable clamping member II, the clamping member ll being operated by means of the lever 12, whereby the attaching strip is securely clamped. Thus it will be seen that due to this constructiomthe handle may be readily and easily removed from a mop and placed over the attaching strip to firmly grip the attaching strip 6.
Mounted on the handle, which is indicated by the reference character 13, is a collar [4 which may be secured in its positions of adjustment along the handle I3.
Extending from the collar I4 is a plate i 5 that has an opening formed therein for the reception of the steadying rod I 6 which is secured in position by means of the nuts I! positioned on opposite sides of the plate.
The free end of the rod 16 extends at an acute angle with respect to the main portion of the rod, and is disposed in an openin formed in one edge of the brush head 5, at a point intermediate the ends thereof, as clearly shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing. This steadying rod, acts to hold the brush head in an upright position, during the scrubbing operation.
When it is desired to use the mop handle with the brush, the clamp of the mop handle is positioned over the attaching strip 5 and the clamp is operated to securely clamp the attaching strip, holding the brush head to the handle.
It will be seen that with this structure, the handle is interchangeable between brushes and mops, eliminating the necessity of providing a handle for each brush and mop.
What is claimed is:
1. In a scrubbing brush, a brush head, alength of fabric material secured to the brush head, a brush handle, a clamp secured to the handle and adapted to clamp the fabric material secur-' ing the brush head to the handle, and a rod adjustably connected with the handle, said brush head having an opening formed therein, one end of the rod being disposed within the opening of the head, whereby said brush head is held against tilting.
2. In a scrubbing brush, a brush head, a length of fabric material folded intermediate its ends providing a central loop, the ends of the length of fabric material being secured to the brush head, the intermediate loop portion of the fabric material extending above the brush head, a handle, means on the handle for clamping the fabric material between the loop and ends thereof yieldingly securing the handle to the brush head, and a brace rod extending from the handle and having connection with the head, adapted to hold the head against movement with respect to the handle.
