(01. 38-125) This invention relates to an ironing board and particularly to an ironing board having comparatively small dimensions so that it may be conveniently transported in the users luggage or stored in quite a small space. Said board is also preferably equipped with simple and efiicient means for'supporting it upon a door knob so that it is firmly supported in position, said board having means to abut the door on which said knob is carried.

It is an" object of this invention to provide an ironing board of comparatively small size having a rigid bail handle pivoted to the top thereof adjacent one end, said handle being adapted to be disposed over the top of a door knob and engage said knob so as to prevent lateral movement of said board, said board having means to abut a door below said knob and adjacent the same together with other means to abut said door some distance below said first mentioned means.

It is a further object of the invention to provide an ironing board preferably of comparatively small size having means secured to its .top side for engaging over a door knob and holding said board firmly in position, said board having portions to abut the door closely below said knob,

said board having articulated means at its underside adapted to extend along and lie closely against said board when the board is not in use and being constructed and arranged tobe brought into position to engage said board and door for forming additional supporting means therefor.

'It is more specifically an object of the invention to provide an ironing board preferably of comparatively small size having means for supporting it upon a door knob, said board having a slot intermediate its ends at its underside extending transversely thereof, a clip secured in said slot having substantially parallel sides extendacters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawing in which like reference char- Fig. 6 is a partial section taken substantially on line 6-6 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing an ironing board I0 is shown and while this could be of various sizes, it preferably is made of comparatively small size, the same tapering toward one end, which end is rounded. At its wider end said board is formed with spaced portions or lugs 19a and these are preferably covered or equipped with pads ll of somesoft or yielding material such as felt or rubber. A pair of small angular clips l2 are secured to the top of .said board adjacent its wider end, said clips being oppositely disposed and having upstanding portions which are respectively parallel. Similar but slightly larger clips I3 are disposed at the underside of board [0 having portions vertically aligned with clips [2 and headed and nutted bolts [4 extend through the portions of clips l2 and I3 engaging said board and thus hold said clips firmly in position. Bolts .l4 have flat rounded heads at the top of board 15 preferably made of metal and of substantially semi-circular form, has its ends pivotally connected by the headed rivets I6 between the upstanding portions of clips I2. An arm I! has one end pivoted by a rivet l8 between the depending portions of clips I3 and while this arm could be variously formed, in the embodiment of the invention illustrated it is shown as rectangular in transverse cross section. Arm i1 is bifurcated at its other end and the rabbeted end 19a of an arm I9 is disposed between the bifurcations of arm I! and pivotally connected thereto by a headed and nutted bolt 20. Arm I9 has a beveled terminal end l9b. Board I0 between its ends and quite some distance from its wider end has formed therein at its underside a slot Illb.

A U-shaped clip 22 preferably of metal, is secured in slot Iflb against the bottom thereof by a screw 23. Itwill be seen that the sides of clip 22 depend in substantially parallel relation and are disposed to extend longitudinally of board l0. Arm I! has a pad 24 of some soft or yielding material such as felt or rubber, secured adjacent its bifurcated end.

In operation, when the board is to be stored or transported with luggage, it will be brought to the position shown in Fig. 2, except that the handle [5 will be swung down against the top of the board. With the board in this collapsed position arm I! fits snugly between the sides of clip 22 and is frictionally held therein. Arm 1 9 can thus extend longitudinally in contact with the underside of the board. The board in this collapsed position occupies small space. When the board is to be used, the arm I! is released and the bevelled end l9b is disposed in the slot 10b with the surface of the bevelled portion engaging one side of said slot. This brings the arms I?! and 1:9 in'to the position shown in.Fi'g. :5. The handle can now be engaged with or placed over the top of the door ilmob 2B of ;door :21 with :sai'd 'bail handle disposed in the rear of the large :handle end .or portion of said knob :and said handle and the board will be supported upon said :knob 26. The pads II will now swing against and abut the side .of the *door as shown in Fig. 1. .Rad '24 will also :be disposed against and'abut the side of the door. The handle l5 takes an inclined position as shown .in Fig. 5 and due to its semi- :circular shape it :engages the :sides of the handle portion knob '26 and locks firmly against :said portion so that no lateral movement of the board is possible. The board is thus very firmly held in its supported position and extends laterally in a substantially horizontal plane. It .is obvi- .ous that the board can :be read'ily released "from knob 26 :and quickly brought to :its collapsed'posiition.

Obviously the board will also be handy for the housewife. It has been previously proposed to have'a flexible Jhandle extending over a door knob, but with such a construction the-end of the board adjacent the knob could swing llaterailly.

What is claimed is:

1. An ironing board having in combination, an elongated board, a rigid bail handle .of arcuate formypivote'd to the top of said board'adjacent one end constructed and arranged to engage over .the shank of a door knob and extend forwardly to engage the sides of the handle portion of said iknob,-ssai-d end having lateral spaced portions, yielding means -on said portions adapted to abut said door slightly below and at each side of said knob, .BLIlIflImYDlVGti-ld. at one end to said board at its underside adjacent said end, a second arm pivoted to the opposite end of said arm and hav-- ing afree beveledend, said board having :a slot in its underside some distance :from said end against -one sideof which said beveled :end is .adapted to seat and yielding means on said first mentioned arm adapted :to abut said door some dis- :tance ;below :and aligned centrally vertically with said end of said boa-rd when said beveled end is so engaged for supporting said board.
