1 Claim. 1

My invention relates to improvements in mop head holders. It relates particularly to the type of mops provided with a mophead engaging wire foot member pivotally connected to a handle.

One of the objects of my invention is the provision of novel means for making pivotal connection between the wire foot member and the handle, which is cheap to make, is strong, durable, not likely to get out of order, not likely to scratch the furniture, and which is efficient in its operation.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention,

Fig. 1 is a plan view, partly broken away, of the wire foot member which engages the usual well known mophead, not shown, the handle engaging member, and the 100p like member which pivotally connects the foot member to the handle attaching member, only a part of the handle being shown.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view .on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a plan view of the loop like member which pivots the wire foot member to the handle attaching means, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged plan view of a modification of the loop like connectin member having parallel sides and curvilinear end portions.

Similar characters of reference designate similar parts in the different views.

I designates a resilient wirefoot member of substantially U shaped form havin a rounded front end, and having end portions 2 and 2' extended inwardly and forwardly and terminating respectively in two eyes 3 and 3', spaced apart, and transversely alined with each other.

4 designates a handle attaching member, which may be of any suitable material, as metal, wood, plastic, but, preferably, of soft rubber, as shown in the drawing, and having at its upper end handle attaching means, as thesocket 5 in which is tightly fitted the lower end of a handle, as the cylindrical bar 6. The handle attaching member 4 includes laterally extending ribs 4 which terminate at the lower end in an elongated flat face 4" perpendicular to the axis of the socket, the length of the face being substantially the same as the normal spacing of the

eyes

3 and 3.

For pivotally connecting the handle attaching member 4 to the eyes 3 and 3', there is a loop like connecting member having two parallel sides I and 8, the side portion 1 being straight, parallel to and substantially coextensive with the face 4", extends through and is pivotally mounted in the

eyes

3 and 3, its other side'portion, 8, and at least half of its

ends

9 and 9, being embedded in the lower end portion of the handle attaching member 4.

In Fig. 5 is shown a modification of the loop like connecting member, which has parallel side portions 1' and 8, and curvilinear end portions l0 and [0. It may be substituted for the loop like member shown in Fig. 4, and is used and operated in a similar manner.

By having the handle attaching member 4 made of soft rubber, it is not liable to scratch other articles, as furniture. By having the loop like member embedded in the soft rubber socket handle attaching member 4, the loop like member is held firmly and use of a holding ferrule is not required.

Many other modifications of my invention, within the scope of the appended claim, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

What I claim is:

In a mop head holder of the character described, in combination with a horizontal resilient wire foot member adapted for engagement of a mop head therewith and having end portions extending inwardly and forwardly from rear ends of transversely spaced side portions and termi-' nating respectively in transversely spaced aligned eyes, a soft rubber handle attaching member having at its upper end a socket adapted to receive a handle and laterally extending integral ribs substantially coextensive with the attaching member and terminating at the lower end in an elongated face perpendicular to the axis of the socket, the length of the face being substantially the normal spacing between the eyes, and a wire loop member having a straight side substantially coextensive with and in parallel spaced relation to the elongated face, said straight side terminat- 3 ing in converging end portions which extend into the elongated face and have inwardly bent aligned ends substantially parallel to the straight side and forming the other side of the loop member and said other side and at least half of the length of each end portion being imbedded in the lower portion of the rubber handle attaching member, said straight side extending through and. pivoted in the eyes of the foot member.
