COMBINED SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET AND VENETIAN BLIND HO LDER Filed April 26, 1945 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor Patented Jan. 13, 1948 2,434,252 COMBINED SHADE AND CURTAIN BRACKET;
AND VENETIAN B LIND HOLDER Matthew Whitfield, Erlanger, Ky. Application April 26, 1945, Serial No. 590,422 2 Claims. (01. 248-271) The. present invention relates to new and useful improvements in fixtures for window shade rollers, curtain and drapery rods, as well as embodying supporting means for Venetian blinds, and the invention has for its. primary. object to provide an attaching bracket adapted for attaching to a window frame and to which various types of curtain and drapery holdersmaybe interchangeably attached and adjustably mounted on the bracket to accommodate various types of curtain and drapery rods.
A further object of the invention is to. provide an attaching bracket of this character having a shade roller support and a Venetian blind support integrally formed therewith and adapted for forming a permanent fixture embodying means for interchangeably receiving holders for various types of curtain and drapery rods, whereby to avoid the necessity of frequently removing and replacing the bracket in accordance with the particular type of curtain or drapery rod desired to be supported thereon.
A further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinaftar described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pair of the fixtures.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the left hand fixture.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the left hand fixture shown attached to a Window frame.
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of a re movable curtain rod holder.
Figure 6 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 7 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 8 is a front elevational view of a combined curtain and drapery rod support of modified construction.
Figure 9 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 10 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 11 is a front elevational view of a modified curtain rod holder.
Figure 12 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 13 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 14 is a front elevational view of a holder for a straight curtain rod.
Figure 15 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 16 is a top plan view thereof.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numerals 5 and 6 designate a pair of the combined shade roller, Venetian blind and curtain and drapesupporting fixtures, the numeral 5 designating the left hand fixture, while the numeral6 designates the right hand fixture.
attaching plate I and extending at right angles thereto is a channel member ll positioned horizontally. against the front of the window casing I2.
Integrallyformed with the channel member II and rising therefrom is an upright I3 having a forwardly projecting arm- I4 provided with a slot I5 in its upper edge and in which one end of a shade roller is adapted for positioning.
A shelf I6 is formed at the lower edge of the plate I and projects horizontally outwardly therefrom and on which one end of a Venetian blind may be supported.
A tongue I! extends upwardly from the rear end of the shelf- I6 and a relatively smaller tongue I8 extends upwardly from the front end of the shelf, the tongues I1 and I8 forming stops to prevent sliding movement of the Venetian blind forwardly or rearwardly on the shelf.
The channel member II is formed with upper and lower inwardly projecting flanges I9 and 20 forming guides behind which the oppositely extending fianges 2| and 22 of a resilient V-shaped curtain rod holder 23 is adapted for slidable en-' gagement, the holder 23 being adjustable longitudinally in the channel member II.
As illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings, a pair of the holders 23 may be mounted in the channel member II for supporting the ends of curtain and drapery rods of a type adapted to telescope over the outwardly projecting ends of the holder.
In order to support curtain and drapery rods of a type having vertically extending slots therein, the holder is constructed in the form as illustrated in Figures 8 to 10, inclusive, and includes a pair of upstanding arms 24 formed with a plate 25 having its upper and lower edges slidably received in the flanges I9 and 20 of the channel-shaped member I I.
In Figures 11 to 13, inclusive, I have illustrated a modified construction for the curtain and drapery rod holder and which comprises a pair of oppositely extending flanges 26 and 27 from which the V-shaped resilient member 28 projects, the outer end of the member 28 being enlarged in the form of a beading 29, to provide more effective friction gripping engagement in the end of a curtain or drapery rod. The flanges 26 and 21 are slidably mounted in the channel member H in the same manner as the holder 23, as illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings.
In Figures 14 to 16, inclusive, a trough-shaped holder 30 is' provided for supporting a straight curtain or drapery rod thereon, the holder 30' ice-'- ing formed at the outer end of an arm 3| pro vided with a flange 32 at its inner end. The other end of the arm 3| is supported by a brace 33 also having a flange 34 formed at its inner end, the flanges 32 and 34 being slidably received behind the flanges l9 member ll.
From the foregoin it will be apparent that the brackets or fixtures and 6 may be attached to the opposite sides of the window casing to provide permanent supportin means for a shade roller as well as a Venetian blind and also embodying interchangeable curtain and drapery rod holders to accommodate various types of curtain and drapery rods.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in r the art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention; what I claim is:
1. A combination window frame fixture for supporting a Venetian blind, a curtain and drapery supporting rod, and a' shade roller, said fixture comprising an attaching plate adapted for attachment to the inside of said frame in horiand 20 of the channel-shaped end of' the plate zontally extending position, an edge shelf on said plate extending horizontally therefrom and adapted to support one end of the Venetian blind, a channeled member extending from one at a right angle thereto and adapted to extend across the front of said frame,
* and means adapted to support a curtain and drapery rod removably mounted in said channeled member, and slidably adjustable along the same, said plate including a forwardly projecting arm adapted to support one end of the shade roller.
2. A combination window frame fixture for supporting a Venetian blind, a. curtain and drapery supporting rod, and a shade roller, said flxture comprising an attaching plate adapted for attachment to the inside of said frame in horizontally extending position, an edge shelf on said plate extending horizontally therefrom and adapted to support one end of the Venetian blind, a channeled member extending from one end of the plate at a right angle thereto, means adapted to support a curtain and drapery rod removably mounted in said channeled member and slidably adjustable along the same, said plate including a forwardly projecting arm adapted to support one end of the shade roller, said shelf being provided with end stops adapted to confine said end of the Venetian blind on the shelf.
