Description
Oct. 27, 1931. A. FINKBEINER DETACHABLE CURTAIN FIXTURE Filed 001;. 20, 1930 I N VEN TOR.
Patented Oct. 27, 1931 PATENT OFFICE ADOLF FINKBEINER, OF WOODMONT, CONNECTICUT DETACHABLE CURTAIN FIXTURE Application filed October 20, 1930.
This invention relates to a detachable curtain fixture of that type which is intended to support curtain rods, draperies, hangings and shades, and the invention relates more particularly to that class of fixture which is not only adjustable but which may be attached to the window casing without the use of screws or nails in a detachable manner so that the fixture may be removed from the window casing without marring the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a fixture (in pairs) that may be adjusted to fit various sizes of window casings and widths of windows.
Another objects being to provide means whereby the fixture may be attached to the window casing in a detachable manner.
A still further object being to provide a device of this class that shall be simple, durable and efficient, contain few parts and be positive in its action.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide an adjustable and demountable fixture that shall be capable of secure attachment to the window casing and capable of supporting a considerable weight.
WVith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof and in which like figures of ref erenoe refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, but it is understood that slight changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings Figure 1 shows a front elevation of the left hand fixture of a pair, showing the same as 0 attached to the side of the window casing.
Figure 2 shows a top plan view of the same, as well as indicating the positions taken by the curtain rods and the shade.
Figure 3 shows an end view of the same.
Figure 4c is an enlarged detail view, partly in section, showing the construction and the adjusting means.
Figure 5 shows a top plan view of the same, also partly in section.
Figure 6 shows an end view of the same,
Serial No. 489,821.
illustrating the means for adjusting the length of the side arm.
Referring to the drawings \Vhile I have only deemed it necessary to illustrate and describe one of the pair of fixtures, it is understod that for the usual window the fixtures are made in pairs, and for two windows placed close together, there is a third fixture of similar design which is mounted to the mullion or central frames of the window; and I have therefore only described the left hand fixture which is shown in the drawings, and in which an upright 10, is formed with a head 11 to which is secured a plate 12 to which are secured the supporting hooks 13 for the rods 14 of the curtains.
The lower end of the upright 10 is integral with an L-shaped frame 15, having an end or arm 16 at right angles thereto; while to the rear of said frame 15 is slidably mounted an adjustable member 17 also formed with an arm 18 at right angles thereto; this arm 18 being provided with a gripping spur 27 which is adapted to bite into the frame 19 of the win- 4 dow.
For mounting frame 15 and the member 17 together in a sliding manner, the frame 15 is formed with the lugs 20 embracing the member 17 and the member 17 is formed with the lugs 21 embracing the frame 15; and for the purpose of retaining said frame 15 and member 17 in an adjusted position and secured to the window casing 19; the member 17 is formed with a series of notches or holes 22; while the frame 15 is provided with 55 a pair of ears 23 between which is pivoted a finger latch 24 which is formed with an engaging lug 25 extending through an opening 26 in the frame 15 and adapted to engage p with any one of the notches 22 to retain the member 17 and adjusted relation with the frame 15 and by the action of the arm 18 and spur 27 taken in connection with a similar arm 28 having a spur 39 and adjustably secured to the arm 16 by a pair of lugs 29 formed on the arm 28 embracing the arm 18 and a stud 30 secured in the arm 18 and adapted to enter any of a series of holes 31 formed in the arm 16.
It will thus be seen that the frame 15 and member 17 may be adjusted to the proper length to embrace the window casing 19; placed thereon and drawn tightly together by the action of the finger latch 24:, which when placed in the position shown in Figure 5 willhold the fixture firmly to the casing; y
the arms having been adjusted as to the proper length for the thickness of the wood of the casing. I V For holding the shade roller 33, the arm 7 16 is provided with a bracket 34 formed with either a slot 35 for the fiatted end of the roller, I or a hole for the round end of-the roller.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :1
1. I shade fixture, comprising in comblnatlon with an'L-shaped'supporting member formed with an "angular rearwardly bent end provided with holes, of a hooked arm slidably adjustably mounted thereon and having a stud adapted to engage with anyone of said holes,
an adjustable clamping member mounted on said supporting member and means for retaining the same in a locked position.
2. A combined detachable and adjustable curtain andshade fixture, comprising incombination with an L-shaped supporting member formedwitha rearwardly bent end pro vided with a series of holes therein, and an I i 1 adjustable gripping m'emberslidably mounted on said L-shaped member and formed with a-series of holes and means for locking said members together, of avpair oflugs formed w v on said L-shaped memberfa locking lever mounted therein and adapted to engage the holes in, said gripping member, a hooked arm slidably mounted on the rearwardly bent portion of the L-shaped member, and a stud secured to said hooked arm and adapted to enga'ge one of the holes in the rearwardly bent portion of the L-shaped member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
