WINDOW FIXTURE Filed June 8, 1928 Hand Ca B08 Patented Sept. 23, 1930 UNITED STATES HANS c. BOSE, or JoLIEn-iLLmoIs I wnvn'ow FIXTURE Application filed JuneS, 1928. Serial No. 283,940.
The inventionrela'tes to shade roller and curtain fixtures. which may be applied to windows without marring the trimming to a noticeable extent.
The invention provides a fixture including two similar members, each adapted to be secured to the window by means of a single fastening and comprising a plurality of pins for engagement thereover of rods for supporting curtains, draperies, and over drapcries, such as lambrequins, and formed with an opening to receive a journal of a shade roller.
While the drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the meansto meet specific needs and requirements, the design may be varied and such other changes in the minor details of the invention as claimed, without departing from the spirit thereof.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the drawing hereto attached, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the upper portion of a window provided with a shade roller and curtain rod fixture embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a detail view of one of the brackets in side elevation showing it in position on a window frame and the rods attached thereto for supporting the curtain and draperies.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the companion bracket having an open slot to receive the flat journal of a shade roller.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of an end portion of a curtain rod.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawing by like reference characters.
The fixture comprises companion brackets 1 of similar formation each including angularly disposed wings 2 and 3 and an ear 4. These brackets are provided right and left to be fitted to corresponding sides of a window so that the ears engage with the inwardly facing sides of the frame or case ment and the wings 2 project outwardly.
ward the window opening.
Each ear 4 is formed with an opening 4 to receive a screw or equivalent fastener 4" whereby the bracket is secured against the inner side face of the window frame and is also formed with a spur 4 to be forced upwardly into the window frame to brace the bracket against outward movement. Since the openings formed by the spur and screws are in the inside upper corners of the frame, they will not be easily seen if the bracket is removed. The lower portion 2 of the wing 2 projects forwardly and has a seat 2 formed therein to receive a journal of the shade roller. The opening of one bracket is round, as indicated in Figure 2, whereas the seat of the other bracket consists of an open slot to receive the fiat ournal of the pin to which the spring of the usual shade roller is attached. A plurality of pins 5, 6, and 7 project outwardly from the wing 2 at differ- 7 ent points in the length thereof and incline upwardly. The pin 5 inclines laterally to Similarly formed rods 8, 9 and 10 engage the respective pins 5, 6 and 7 and are supported thereby. Each of the rods includes sections telescopically jointed to admit of adjustment to different sizes of window openings. The outer ends of the sections of the rods are recurved thence offset to engage the respective pins by a slip 0 joint. In this manner the rods are readily removable from the brackets and adapted to be easily engaged therewith when being placed in position.
When the fixture is in position the base wings 3 of the brackets engage the facing of the trimming, whereas the supporting wings 2 project outwardly to support, the
:shade roller and drapery rods. The apertured ears engage the inner faces of the jambs adjacent the cross piece and receive the fastening means. The bracket is prevented from turning upon the single fastening because of the wing 3 engaging the outer face of the window frame and the top edge of the ear 4 engaging the under side of the cross piece.
By employing a single fastening which is disposed to penetrate the iamb or trimming from the inner side of the window frame the latter is not marred to a noticeable extent, and the provision of a plurality of pins enables the use of a number of rods whereby a curtain, a drapery and an over drapery may be readily applied to a Window as desired? Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A combined shade roller and curtain rod bracket comprising right angularly disposed base and supporting Wings, the supporting wing having its lower portion extended for- Wardly and provided With an opening to receive a shade roller journal, and having a plurality of curtain rod sustaining pins projecting upwardly and forwardly from its upper edge to unequal distances, and the base Wing having an ear projecting rear- Wardly from its inner edge intermediate the ends thereof, said ear having an attaching spur and an opening to receive a fastening.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
