CURTAIN ROD FIXTURE Filed Jan. 24, 1930 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Fig.3.
Patented Apr. 7, 1931 ALEXANDER MARCZUKOWSKI, F SOUTH BOST ON MASSACHUSETTS CURTAI -non FIXTURE Application filed January 24, 1930. Serial no. 423,012.
This invention relates to a fixture for supporting curtain rods and it has for its object to provide a novel fixture which is arranged to be detachably clamped to the heading of the window frame and which may thus be installed without defacing the window frame, as is done where the curtain fixture is fastened to the window frame by screws or hooks or the like that are screwed into the window frame.
s My improved curtain fixture comprises a supporting member adapted to be detachably clamped to the window frame, and a curtain rod holder adjustably mounted on the support,'said holder being provided with means to support the curtain rods.
The novel features of the invention will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointedout in the appended claims.
' In the drawings, Fig. 1-is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the window frame having my improved curtain support mounted thereon;
Fig; 2 is a front view of'thewindow frame with apart brokenout illustrating the fixture 3.5 but with the curtain rods removed; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is an end view of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a perspective View of the slide carrying the arms for supporting the curtain o rod; 1
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional View on the line 6-6, Fig. 3;
Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7"(', Fig. 4. Fig. 8 is a section on the line 88 Fig. 4. Fig 9 is a fragmentary perspective view showing a different embodiment of the invention In the drawings 1 indicates the heading of an ordinary window frame to which my improved fixture is secured. This curtain fixture comprises a supporting member 2 adapted to be detachably clamped to each end of the heading 1 and a curtain rod holding member indicated generally at 3 which is adjusta. ably carried by the supporting member-2,
this holding member having means for supporting one or more curtain rods.
In the present embodiment of the invention the holder is constructed to support three curtain rods, said curtain rods being indica'ted at 4, 5* and 6 respectively. Thecu'rtain rods herein illustrated are of the familiar tubular type, the ends 7 of which are bent at right angles and are adapted to be tele-' scoped over arms forming part of the curtain fixture.
In the present embodiment of my invention these arms, of which there are three shown for each fixture, are indicated at 8 and they are carried by a slide 9 which is adjust ably mounted in the holding member 3, as will be presently described.
The supporting member 2 shown in Figs. 1 to 4 is adjustable as to its length and is designed to be located at the end 11 of the heading 1.. Said supporting member 2 is provided at both the top and the bottom end with arms 10 that overlie the top and bottom edges of theheading 1, each arm being shown as having spurs or teeth 12 which are adapted to be embedded in the top and bottom edges of the heading 1 thus anchoring the supporting member 2 thereto.
As stated above this supporting member is made adjustable as to its length to permit it to be used on headings of different widths. As herein shown it is formed in the two sections 13, 14 which are adjustably secured together by the clamping screw 15. One of the sections may conveniently be provided with an ear 16 to overlie the front face of the head lio'n'g 1 therebyto steady the supporting mem- The holding member 3 is provided with a portion 17 which embraces the upper section 13 of the supporting member 2, said section being spaced fromthe end of the heading 1 for this purpose. The body of the holding member 3 extends parallel to the front face of the heading 1 and is provided at its top and bottom edges with guiding lips 18 in which the slide 9 is received.
The holding member 3' is adjustably mounted on the supporting member 2 and can be adjusted vertically thereon. It is held in adjusted position by means of a latch mem ber 20 which is pivoted to the holding memher 3 at 21 and which is provided with the" locking lip 22 adapted to engage in any one" of a series of notches 23 with which the edge IOU of the member 2 is provided. By swinging the latch member 20 backwardly into the dotted line position Fig. 2 the locking lip 22 will be withdrawn from the notch 23 thereby freeing the holding member 3 so that it can be moved up and down into any one of the positions determined by the various notches 23.
The locking latch member 20 is also provided with means for locking the slide 9. For this purpose said latch is formed with the extension 24 having the upturned finger 25 that is adapted to engage behind one of the arms 8 when the latch is in operative position as best seen in Fig. 2.
My invention thus provides a device which can be applied to the heading of any window frame without any special tools and by an inexperienced person. Moreover, the securing of the device to the heading does not de face or mar the latter in any way.
\Vhile I have shown the heading member as having three arms 8 thereby enabling it to support three curtain roos, yet the number of arms 8 is not an essential feature of the invention and this same construction might be used with a slide 9 which had only one sup porting arm or two or more arms. The advantage of constructing the device to support a plurality of curtain reds is that it provides a curtain fixture by which a plurality of hangings may be supported, as is frequently desirable.
WVhile I have illustrated herein a selected embodiment of my invention I do not wish to be limited to the constructional features shown.
I claim.
1. In a curtain fixture, the combination with a supporting member adapted to be anchored to the end of the heading of a window frame, a holding member adjustable vertically on said supporting member and provided with a curtain rod supporting arm directed forwardly from said heading to support a curtain rod.
2. In a curtain fixture, the combination with a supporting member adapted to be secured to the end of the heading of a window frame, a holding member adjustable vertically on said supporting member and provided with a curtain rod supporting arm directed forwardly from said heading to support a curtain rod and a locking latch by which the holding member is retained in adjusted position.
3. In a curtain fixture the combination with a supporting member having at each end a claw foot, said feet being adapted to be anchored in the heading of a window frame, a holding member adjustable vertically on the supporting member and provided with a plurality of forwardly-extending arms to support curtain rods.
4. In a curtain fixture, the combination with a supporting member adapted to be secured to each end of the heading of a window frame, each supporting member having claw feet engaging the top and bottom edges of the heading, a holding member slidable vertically on each supporting member, means to lock each holding member in adjusted position, each holding member having a portion extending parallel to the front face of the heading and provided with arms extending at right angles thereto, and on which curtain rods may be detachably supported to said arms.
5. The combination with two supporting members adapted to be detachably clamped to the heading of a window frame at the ends thereof, a holding member slidable vertically on each supporting member, each holding member having a portion extending in front of and parallel to the front face of the heading, a plate carried by each such portion, each plate having curtain rod supporting arms extending therefrom, and a locking member pivotally connected to each holding member and operating both to lock the holding memher in adjusted position and to lock the slide to said holding member.
6. In a curtain fixture, the combination with a notched supporting member adapted to be anchored to the end of the heading of a window frame, of a holding member adjusted vertically on said supporting member and provided with a curtain rod supporting arm directed forwardly from the heading and a locking device pivoted to the holding member and adapted to engage in one of the notches of the supporting member thereby to retain the holding member in adjusted position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
