MULTIPLE COMPARTMENT HANDBAG Filed July 50, 1945 v Azra EY Patented Oct. 28,v 1947 UNITED sTATEs PATENT oFEicE `Application July .30,
3 Claims. (Cl.I150-28) This invention relates particularly toa flexible utility-bag having a plurality of separate and independent openings or compartments each having its own closing means.
An object of vthe present invention is to provide an improved utility hand bag having separate compartments for different types of articles which may be kept segregated and made readily accessible by quick-opening closure or fastener members.
Another object of the invention is to provide individual pockets or compartments of different shapes to accommodate different types of articles, each compartment having its own easily accessible closure member.
With the above and other objects in view the invention may include the features of construction and operation set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have shown the invention embodied in two preferred forms of hand bags but it will be understood that the invention can be otherwise embodied and that the drawing is not to be construed as defining or limiting the scope of the to hand bags and more invention, the claims appended to this speciiication being relied upon for that purpose.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of one bag made according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the bag shown in Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a side View of a and Fig. 4 is an end View of the bag shown in Fig. 3.
In the above-mentioned drawing there have been shown but two forms of the invention which are now deemed preferable, but it will be understood that changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Briefly, and in its broadest aspect, the invention may include the following principal parts: First, an enclosure of circular or polygonal outline and of uniform thickness or Width; second, partitions subdividing the outline into several pockets or compartments; third, openings for said individual compartments; fourth, fastening members such as slide fasteners for closing said openings; and fifth, a wide but thin pocket positioned either on one of the sides of the bag or4 as shown modified form of bag,
form of hand' in Fig. 4 :centrally of the outline when =the bag is Yso formed that Yit may be centrally opened.
detail to the gures of the drawing, there is shown in Fig. l a hand bag Il) of .hexagonal outline having six separated Vand independent compartments II each having one of its sides forming part of the periphery or outline of the bag. The other sides of the compartments I I are formed by substantially radial partitions I2 so that each compartment is triangular in outline.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. l each compartment II referred to above has an opening I3 thereto cut into the side of the compartment forming a part of the periphery of the bag. To increase the length of this opening I3 it may extend diagonally of the faces or outer sides of the compartments II and is closed by Referring more in any form of quick-acting fastener such as a slide y fastener I4. This form of bag is provided with an end pocket I5 of flat or thin form but in outline taking up a major part of the outline. This pocket I5 is adapted primarily for cards, etc., and may have one of its sides provided with an opening which may be closed or fastened by a slide fastener I6 reaching the full length of one side. A flexible strap or handle I'I may be provided for carrying or supporting the bag.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs, 3 and 4 the outline may be either cylindrical or polygonal and as compared to the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may have its width greatly elongated. The bag is made in two symmetrical halves I8 so that it may be opened as shown in dotted lines. Between these two half portions I8 may be formed a thin pocket I9 disposed between the partitions 20 forming the inner walls of the tWo half portions I8. Also each half portion I8 may have radiating partitions 2| to divide each portion into several compartments or pockets. Each of these pockets has an opening closed by a fastener 22 formed in the outer or outline surface of the hand bag. The two half portions I8 may have a fastener 23 such as a slide fastener to close the thin centrally disposed pocket. A strap 24 or chain may be connected at its opposite ends to separated portions of the bag, preferably on the opposite end walls. To separate the two halves I8 the outline of the bag opposite the fastener 23 may be provided with a suitable hinge 25.
. What I claim is:
1. A hand bag having spaced pockets formed a plurality of anglarly by spaced radially disposed fixed partitions within the bag and the pockets formedby spaced radially disposed iixed partitionsiwithin the outer covering of the bag and a portion of the bag, each of said pockets having an opening formed in the outer covering of the bag forming the peripheral surface of said bag, individually operable fastenings for closing said openings, and having an opening extending around a faces of said bag.
3. A hand bag comprising two substantially equal half portions hinged to each other along one side of said bag, a fastening means adapted to retain said lhalves in closed position and partition means to form an elongated but thin centra1 pocket between adjacent surfaces of said half portions, a plurality of angularly disposed particlosed by a separate fastener plurality. of the outside sura centrally disposed pockettions Within said half portions forming spaced pockets therein, separate openings for said pockets formed in the outer periphery of said bag, and individual fasteners for said Openings.
