This invention relates to improvements in clothes hangers, and more particularly, to a clothes hanger provided with securing means for clothes supported thereby.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved clothes hanger of very simple and inexpensive construction and which is adapted. to eificiently support articles of clothing without wrinkling or creasing said articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved clothes hanger which is v'eryfe'asy to manufacture, said hanger consisting of a small number of very simple parts which may be readily assembled to form the complete unit.
A still further object of the invention is 'to provide an improved clothes hanger havin means adapted to hold garments thereon with the garments properly supported so as to maintain their shape, said hanger being foldable so that it may be readily packed or stored in a small space.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a clothes hanger constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan View of the clothes hanger of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, II designates the frame portion of the clothes hanger, said frame portion comprising a downwardly bowed flat strip of stiff sheet material such as plastic material, sheet metal, or the like, said strip being formed with depending end tabs I2, I2 which are forwardly offset with respect to the central longitudinal plane of frame portion II. Secured between the depending tabs I2, I2 is a rigid horizontal bar I3 havin a smoothly rounded top surface for supporting garments folded thereover Without wrinkling or creasing the garments.
Secured to cross-bar I3 adjacent its ends are depending hook members I4, I4, said hook members being adapted to receive trouser strap loops, the shoulder straps of slips, or other loop portions of garments for suspending the garments therefrom in extended position for airing and the like.
Looped over the shank portions of hook members I4, I4 is a taut rubber band I5, said band being employed to clampingly engage garments folded over cross-bar I3 to prevent said garments from slipping ofi the cross-bar. Rubber band I5 is retained infra substantiallyrraised position on the shanks of the hook members 14, 'I 4 by a collar member Iii of metal or :other suitable material which embraces the rubber band. I5 adjacent one of the hook membersl'4 and. fr'ictionally secures the rubber band in tight engage'ment withsa-id one of theihook members. :The collar member I6 prevents rubber band 15 from'ibeing .detached .frame portion :II :are downwardly-extended in width to define broad-supporting :surfacesfor the shoulder. portions :of a'garment hung on the frame portion of the hanger. The wide bottom sections I! of said side elements aid in maintainin the proper shape of the shoulder portions and upper sleeve portions of the garment. The top of frame portion II is formed with a pair of upstanding curved tab elements I 8, I8 substantially in the vertical plane of cross-bar I3, said tab elements being adapted to be received within the neck portion of a garment to aid in maintaining the proper shape of said neck portion. Intermediate tab elements I8, I8 is an upstanding tab I9 adapted to be received within the neck loop of the garment, said tab being formed with an inwardly struck member 20 beneath which the neck loop of the garment is adapted to be engaged to secure the garment in centered position on the frame portion I I of the hanger. Secured to frame portion II opposite tab I9 are a pair of angle brackets 2|, 2| having parallel upstanding lug portions 22. Pivotally secured between lug portions 22 is a hook member 23, frame portion I I being slotted at 24 to allow hook member 23 to be swung from its opened position, shown in full View in Figures 1 to 3, to an inoperative position beneath frame portion II for packing or storage of the hanger, said inoperative position being shown in dotted view in Figure 1.
While a specific embodiment of a clothes hanger has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a garment hanger, a horizontally disposed fiat strip of material bowed upward at the center and with the ends extending vertically downward,
2. In a garment hanger, a horizontally disposed flat strip of material bowed upward at the center and with the ends extending Vertically downward, said strip having protruding-arcuate formations on the forward edge adjacent'the ends thereof to shape the shoulders of a coat supported thereon and garment neck-forming projections sloping outward from the rear edge of the central portion thereof with a tab on one of said projections for engagement with a garment-supporting strap on the inner surface of the neck of a garment suspended on the hanger, a supporting hook mid-way between the ends of said strip extending upward therefrom, a horizontal bar fixedly mounted between the downwardly extending ends of the strip, depending hooks extending downward from the under surface of said horizontal bar, and an elastic band positioned parallel to said horizontal bar with the opposite ends thereof mounted on said'hooks. V r
3. In a garment hanger, a horizontally disposed fiatstrip of'materi'al bowed upward at the center and with the end extending vertically downward,
said strip having protruding arcuate formations on the forward edge adjacent the ends thereof to shape the shoulders of a coat supported thereon and a plurality of separated garment neck-forming projections sloping outward from the rear edge and centrally disposed thereon with a tab on one of said projections for engagement with a garment-supporting strap on the inner surface of the neck of a garment, a supporting hook positioned mid-way betweenthe ends of said strip extending upward therefrom, means pivotally mounting said hook in a slot extending inward from the forward edge of said strip wherein the hook may be folded to ,a downwardly extending position, a. horizontal bar fixedly mounted between the downwardly extending ends of the strip, depending hooks extending downward from the under surface of said horizontal bar, and an elastic band positioned parallel to said horizontal bar with the opposite ends thereof mounted on said hooks.
