UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SETH D. BINGHAM, OF SOUTH TOLEDO, OHIO.
TRACE-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,867, dated June 14:, 1881.
' Application filed April 26, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern.
, Be it known that I, SETH D. BINGHAM, of
South Toledo, Lucas county, Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Trace-Buckle, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for attaching the trace to the hanle'tug.
Theinvention consists in a wedge-shaped or beveled block or plate provided with a stud on its upper surface and with side arms surrounding the longitudinal bars of an oblong lraine, so that it can slide in this frame, which has its outer end bent upward, whereas itsinner end is attached to the hame-tug. The end of the trace passes through the outer bent end of the frame and rests on the slide, the stud of which passes through it.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of my improved trace-buckle, and of the straps attached thereto. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal elevation of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
An oblong or square metal frame, A, is attached to one end of the hame-tug B, and the outer end, 0, of this frame A is bent upward or outward to permit passing a trace or strap, D, through itwithout bendingthis strap, as shown inFig. 2. ThisframeAInay be provided with a series of loops, E E, at the outer end and sides, for attaching other parts of the harness; but
theseloops are notessentiahand can be omitted. A slide or plate, F, beveled toward the ends,
:is provided with two lugs, H, surrounding the side bars of the frame A. That part of the plate F extending toward the bend (J of the frame A has a long bevel, whereas the other end has a short bevel. A stud or pin, G, projects upward from the top of the plate F, near the short beveled edge, this pin passing into an aperture in the trace D, which has been passed through the bent part 0 of the frame A, and rests upon the plate F. If the trace is drawn in the direction of the arrow, the plate or slide F will slide up the bent ends 0 of the frame A, and the trace will be firmly clamped between the plate F and the end cross-piece of the frame A, and as the strain on the trace increases the clamping pressure on the trace increases accordingly.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaiin as new and desire to secure by Letters Patout-- In a trace-buckle, the slide F, constructed substantially as herein shown and described,
with lateral studs H surrounding the side bar of the frame A, with beveled ends, and with a pin, Gr, projecting from its upper surface, as set forth. v
SETH D. BINGHAM. \Vitnesses:
EDWARD YOUNG, F. J. KYNETT.
