Description

(N0 Medal.)
JJJ. LAWLER. Stove Attachment.
Nd. 242,829. Pate nted June 14,1881.
TVITJVE$9ES VENTOR a d. By flttorlz-eys y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE,
JAMES J. LAWLER, OF SGRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
STOVE ATTAC H M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 242,829, dated June 14, 1881.
Application filed January 8, 1881. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES J. LAWLER,-a citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in stove attachments; andit consists in the horizontal pipeA,having projecting upward therefrom the elbowed heat-receptacles and lid-holders B B, and lids b b, the damper G, and in the peculiar combination and arrangement of the parts with relation to the stove and combustion-pipe, as hereinafter more fully shown and described.
In the drawings, Figure 1. is a plan view of my device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof.
A represents a horizontal pipe, located ordinarily near the same plane as the top of the stove, and forming a part of the smo e or combustion pipe. It is provided with the heatrcceptacles or elbows B B, which open into it, and these elbows have resting thereon and rigidly secured thereto the metallic rims or disks ea, which are shouldered, as shown, for reception of the-lids b b.
0 represents a damper, which is designed to cause the heat, together with the products of combustion, to be diverted from the ordinary channel and communicated to the lids b 40 b or cookingutensils located on the disks a a.
My invention, which may be attached to and become a part of any stove or stove-pipe, presents many advantages. Any kind of fluid may be boiled thereon, and heatingstoves thus be employed for cooking purposes; besides, the same device may be attached to the smokepipes of cooking-stoves, and an economy he thereby efi'ected in the construction of such stoves.
It will be observed from the peculiar arran ge ment of the damper O in relation to the combustion-pipe and the elbowed heat-receptacle that the amount of heat brought into contact with the lids b b may by such arrangement be simultaneously and accurately adjusted in each elbow to suit the character of the cooking to be performed. Indeed, such construction and arrangement for stove attachments I deem of chief importance, and it is obviously essential in order to temper or vary the degree of heat to suit articles differing in character, and requiring a greater or less intensity of heat to accomplish the intended purpose artistically and withoutinjury to such articles by burning or too rapid cooking.
What I claim is- In a stove attachment, the damper O, in combination with the elbowed heat-receptacles B B,'disks a a, lids b b, and horizontal smoke-pipe A, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES JOSEPH LAWLER.
I Witnesses:
