I Corner Filling.
No. 240,438. Patented April 19,188I.
ILFETERS, FHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER. wASmNGToN D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DUNCAN MGFEE, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
CORNER-FILLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,438, dated April 19, 1881.
Application filed October 25, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DUNCAN MCFEE, of the city of Montreal, in the district of Montreal and Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Corner-Fillings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention, while applicable in all cases in which two vertical surfaces or planes make an internal angle with a third, is specially adapted to, and intended for, the internal angles of skirtings or bases of rooms, of staircases, window-linings, &o., and, while efiiciently fulfilling its purpose, may be made to improve the appearance of the corner in which it has been set. It may be briefly described as an equilateral triangular plate, formed with aregular internal curve and concave edges, secured in place by bending down the points forming the apices of the triangle; but for full comprehension of theinvention reference must be had to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 represents my invention as applied to a staircase. Fig. 2 is a detail front view of a plate, and Fig. 3 a side view of same with corners turned down.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A is the corner-filling, of the shape shown in Fig. 2-viz., an equilateral triangle with concave sides a a-cut or stamped out of thin metal or other suitable material, and bent, by swaging or pressing in dies, into the shape shown in Fig. 3, so that a line drawn from either of the apices through the center will give an equal and the same curve.
(N0 model.)
This plate is preferably secured, after having been set in place, as shown in Fig. 1, by turning down the points A, as shown in Fig. 3, these points being elongated to a considerable extent where they have to pass through carpeting, &c., less if only needed to be pressed into soft wood, and still less when the material to which they are to be secured is hard wood. The concavity of the edges allows the plates or corners to fit so closely against each of the surfaces as to make a dust-proof joint.
In cases in which the vertical meeting surfaces are to each other at an angle greater than a right angle, the shape of the plate A will be somewhat modified and the upper angle be made obtuse.
It will thus be seen that by my invention the difficulty and trouble of removing the dirt, dust, &c., which will constantly accumulate in corners, is completely obviated, and the operation of cleaning these rendered as easy as ordinary work, the broom passing over my corner-filler with as much effect as over a plane surface.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is as follows:
The corner-fillin g substantially as herein described, oonsisting of a triangular plate having turned-in points or apices, whereby the plate may be secured in place in a corner, as set forth.
Montreal, 20th day of October, A. D. 1880.
DUN CAN MOFEE.
