INVENTOR www WLTNESSBS:
1 ATTORNEY NVFETERS. PHOTOJJTNGGRAPHER WASHINGTON. D. C.
PATENT IGNATZ NEUMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO DAVID FOX AND MORRIS BROWN,
OF SAME PLACE.
CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming pant of Letters Patent No. 239,187, dated March 22, 1881.
Application filed February 21, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IGNATZ NEUMAN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Caps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
rIhis invention is in the nature of an improvement in caps g and the invention consists in a cap constructed with an ear and neck protector united to and at the back of the cap by a swivel, whereon the protector may turn to cover the ears and neck of the wearer or encircle the cap-body when not in use, as is more particularly hereinafter described.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings, Figure l represents a side view of my cap, partly in section, with protector encircling cap-body 5 Fig. 2, a side view of cap with protector swiveled around in position to cover the ears and neck; and Fig. 3 a view of the protector before attachment to cap-body, and showing position of swivel when protector is attached to cap.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate like parts in the several figures. y
Winter caps provided with devices for pro,- tecting the ears and neck of the wearer are old and well known, and these protecting` devices have been made in many different ways, some of them to slide up and down, others to fold up and down, and still others that are removable.
As an improvement upon caps of this description, which improvement, it is believed, possesses many advantages over any heretofore-constructed, I make my cap -body A of any desirable size and shape and from any suitable material, the cap-body bein g, in every respect, the same as are the cap-bodies of ordinary and well-known forms. Immediately v at the rear of this body A--that is, at a point at its rear equidistant from the sides a of the bodyis formed in the cover d of the body an eyelet-hole, B. Between the cover d' of enable it to entirely encircle the body A of the cap, and so that its endsf and g may lap over each other at the front ot' the cap, above the visor G, which supports them, one of them being provided with a button or catch, E, and the other end with a buttonhole, F, or similar device.
Now, my cap being constructed substantially as above described in this wise, when 'the protector is not in use it lies wholly above the lower edge, h, of the cap-body, encircling this body, as shown in Fig. 1 but when it is intended to use the protector for the purpose of covering the ears and neck of the wearer the ends f g are disunited by unbuttonin g them, and the protector D is then turned on the swivel C until its previous upper edge, k, becomes its lower edge. The ends fg are then again united or buttoned together, when the protector assumes and retains the position shown iu Fig. 2, in which position the ears and neck of the wearer are fully protected from the inclemency of the weather. y
To restore the protector to the position shown in Fig. 1, its ends f g are again unbuttoned and the yprotector turned on the swivel C until its edge k is brought uppermost, and the ends fg being next buttoned, the protector remains in this last-named position, presenting vthe appearance of an ordinary band-cap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A cap with an ear and neck protector se cured to the back of th@ cap by a swivel, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In apap with an ear and neck protector, a swivel-fastening at the back of the cap, which unites the protector to the cap-body, and buttons or other adjustablefastening devices, which unite the front ends of the protector together, substantially as and for the purpose described.
