Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. FORBES, OF BOSTON, MASSAOHUSETTS.
INKSTAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,103, dated February 1, 1881.
Application filed June 18, 1880. (No model.)
10 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY D. FORBES, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Inkstand, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device to be used conjointly with an ink-holder, for the purpose of securing cleanliness of the surroundings and purity of the ink; and it consists in combining with the ink-vessel a cheap flat disk, of any suitable material-blotting-paper, for instancewhich shall serve as a collector of any ink that is accidentally dropped, the disk to be removed as often as it gets soiled.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of one modification of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 shows an ink-well and disk attached. Fig. 4 is a plan of one of my disks.
A in the drawings represents the base or holder for the ink-receptacle proper. This may be of any desired shape and style, or it may be dispensed with and the ink-receptacle B be inserted into the desk or table. Theinkholder B is provided with a flange, B, as shown. The flat disk 0 is made of any suitable material, and has an opening, S, Fig. 4, in its center, through which the ink-receptacle B can pass.
When the parts-are put together, as shown in Fig. 1, the flange B of the ink-receptacle B holds the blotter-disk 0 in place. To change the disk 0, it is necessaryonly to take out the ink-receptacle B and slip it off, when a new one may be put in its place.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is-- In an inkstand, the combination of the base A and disk 0 with the ink-receptacle B and flange B, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY D. FORBES.
