ADJUSTABLE REVOLVING TABLE TRAY-CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed May 26,1913. Serial No. 769,963.
To all 20 hom it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR FLnron, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State. of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Revolving Table Tray-Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to an adjustable revolving tray carrier and has for its object to provide a useful article for use on a dining table or elsewhere, to avoid the unnecessary and unsanitary handling of dishes when passing them from one person to another during a meal, and also to avoid soiling the table cloth or marring the polish of the table. The device is especially useful in serving course dinners.
To this end the device consists essentially of a support revoluble on a suitable base and provided with adjustable arms adapted for receiving a tray, dish or other article.
Herein I illustrate and describe in detail one of many possible embodiments of the invention, but this single embodiment is shown only by way of example and other similar devices or variations of this device may be used without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. In the accompanying drawing, which is for illustrative purposes only and therefore not drawn to any particular scale or proportion, Figure l is a central vertical sectional View, partly in elevation, of the carrier; Fig. 2 is a plan of the revolving support of the carrier; Fig. 8 is a plan of the base of the carrier; and Fig. at is a transverse sectional view through one of the arms, taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Referring more particularly to the drawing the device is shown comprising a stand or base 10 011 which is revolubly mounted a support 11. The base 10 comprises a body portion 12 provided with legs 13 each provided at its outer end with an offset flat bearing face 14. At the center of the base, there is provided an upstanding boss 15 provided with a central threaded bore 16. The sup port comprises a central hub 18 from which project lateral arms 19 each provided with a rectangular longitudinal slot 20 passing the arm from side face to side face and extending nearly from end to end thereof. The hub 18 is provided with a smooth axial bore 21 which engages over the upstanding boss 15, whereby the support freely revolves on the base the lower portion of the boss resting upon the body portion 12 of the base. Around the upper part of the smooth bore 21 an annular recess 22 is provided, in which engages the edge of a rigid circular washer 23 held in place by a headed screw 21 yengaging in the threaded'bore 16, thus holding the base and revolving support together.
For each arm 19 there is provided an ad justable extension 26 adapted to lie longitudinally against the side face of the arm and each provided with an elongated rectangular lug 27 adapted to engage in any part of the slot 20 of the arm. Through this extension and the lug thereof there is provided a transverse bore through which is passed a suitable clamping bolt 28 adapted to clamp the extension and arm tightly together in any adjusted position, dependmg upon the size of the tray 29 or other article supported on the carrier. Each extension 26 is provided with an upturned outer end 30 adapted to engage the edge of the tray and prevent lateral sliding thereof.
Any suitable material or materials may be used for the construction of the device, and the device may be adapted for use with any size and style of tray, dish or the like.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a tray carrier the combination of a base; a support revolubly mounted thereon and provided with outwardly projecting arms, provided with laterally opening longitudinal slots; extensions fitted on the sides of said arms; an elongated lug fixed on the side of the extension and engaging in said slot; and a clamping bolt passing through each adjacent arm, extension and lug and clamping such arm and extension together.
2. In a tray carrier, the combination of a base comprising a body portion, an upstanding boss thereon provided with a threaded bore, and lateral legs projecting from the body; a support comprising a hub having a central bore having an annular recess at its upper end, and arms projecting from said hub and each having a laterally opening longitudinal slot; a washer having its edge engaging in said annular recess; a screw holding said washer in place and engaging in said threaded bore; extensions fitted on the sides of said arms respectively and each provided with an upturned end, and with an elongated lateral lug engaging in said slot; and a clamping bolt passing through each adjacent extension, arm and lug and clamping them together.
3. In a tray carrier, thecombination of a base comprising a body portion, a central upstanding boss on the body; portion. and provided with a central threaded bore, and horizontal legs projecting from the body portion a and each provided with a lower, .ofiset, terminal bearing face; a support comprising a central hub having a centralbore engaging over said boss and provided with an annular recess around its upper end, and arms projecting horizontally from said huh and each provided with a laterally opening slot extending near-1y fromvend to .end thereof; a rigid washerhaving its. edge engaging in said annular recess; a headedv screw holding engaging in the slot of the arm, and an upturned end; and a clamping bolt passlng 520 each provided with an elongated lateral lug through each adjacent arm, slot, lug and eX- tension and clamping such arm and extension together.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
