FOLDING-GUIDE FOR CORSET PARTS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 235,671, dated December 21, 1880.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN S. OROTTY, of New York, county of New York, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improved Folding-Guide for Corsets, which is fully set forth in the following-specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of my improved corset-guide at the line 00 w of Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a plan thereof, with part of the top plate removed; Fig. 3, an end view; Fig. 4, the material after it has passed through the folder.

In the drawings,A A are the folding-guides, and B B the width-controlling guides.

The object of this invention is to provide a folder adapted to the manufacture of corsets, whereby two pieces of material may be simultaneously folded on both edges and kept exactly equidistant at all points, so that when stitched and a steel placed within the sheath a uniform and finished appearance will be preserved. This is accomplished by the employment of four ordinary twist-edge foldingguides, such as are shown at A. They are placed in pairs, one above another, as indicated in Fig. 3, and as the two pieces of equal Width material are drawn through them it is manifest that the' four edges of the same will be turned inward, as has long been practiced with hemmers and foldingvguides of similar form.

For corset work something more is required than merely turning theedges of the material; they must be so turned that the seams taken at the extreme edges of the folded material shall be of a fixed unvarying width. This result is secured by the straight guides B B, which absolutely control the width of the material at the turning-point, the edges of the straight guides being as far apart as the sheath for the steel is wide.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
