1 Claim.

An object of this invention is to provide a spectacle case of simple, practical and economical construction.

A further object of this invention is to provide a spectacle case of unitary construction which is adapted to be made from a single blank of suitable material, preferably of leather or the like, the blank being adapted to be stitched or otherwise closed at its free horizontal edges and at a portion of an end thereof, said spectacle case being of such construction as to be practically indestructible in use.

A further object of this invention is to provide a spectacle case adapted to effectively hold spectacles without necessitating the use of moving parts, such as snap fasteners, closing flaps and the like.

A further object of this invention is to provide a spectacle case of such construction that the same presents a cross section of V shaped outline to facilitate the positioning and maintaining of spectacles therein.

These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, and in which: 1

The spectacle case of my invention is preferably made from a single blank or sheet ID of flexible material, such as leather, compressed paper or the like, cut to present an outline defining front and rear walls II and I2 of similar shape and a rectangular top portion l3 medially and unitarily uniting said walls in spaced relation at their upper edges. The front and rear walls II and I2 are open at their ends I4 and I5 and are secured together at their lower, free horizontal edges I6-l'| by any suitable or convenient means, as by stitching the same together at Is. Said walls are further secured together at one end of the spectacle case adjacent the edges l6 and H, as at IQ, for the purpose of partially closing said end of the spectacle case adjacent said lower edges. By this construction, the said case will be open at one end 20 from the top portion I3 to lower edges Iii-l1 and will open at the other end 2| from the top portion l3 to the closed portion IQ of said end.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a spectacle case of V shaped cross section (as shown in Fig. 4) having an open end 20 for insertion of spectacles and having a partially closed end 2| against which the spectacles may abut. When the spectacle case with spectacles maintained therein, is positioned in the user's pocket with the end 2| lowermost, the spectacles will be effectively held in the case and will be prevented from being displaced therefrom.

If desired, the top portion I3 may be reinforced by any suitable means, as by securing to the interior thereof a press-board, or other stiffening plate 22 of slightly smaller dimensions than said top portion l3, said plate 22 being secured to top portion l3 by any suitable means 23 as by stitching the same thereto.

The V shape sectional outline of the spectacle case provides ample space therein for the spec tacles and at the same time normally disposes the same downwardly, the downwardly converging walls of the spectacle case facilitating the positioning and holding of the spectacles therein.

The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as re strictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously, many embodiments may be constructed, including many modifications, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention herein set forth and denoted in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A spectacle case formed from a single blank of flexible material comprising identical front and rear sides, an integral top wall of uniform width throughout its length and being of a length substantially one-half the length of the overall length of the case connecting the front and rear sides only at their intermediate portions, the lower edges of the front and rear sides being secured together, the front and rear sides being entirely free at one end of the case to facilitate insertion and removal of a pair of spectacles with respect to the case, the opposite ends of the front and rear sides being secured together at the lower portions thereof only to prevent displacement of the spectacles through said partially closed end of the case, and a stiffening member of substantially the same dimensions as the top wall and secured thereto to render the latter rigid and produce a case of substantial V-shaped design in cross section.
