In this position, the arms 29 are substantially parallelto each other across the corners of the plate forming the cross-arm 26 and this movement may be limited by engagement of the arms 29 with the pivot axis or the cotter pin 21. When the cover is in position so that the flange 20 will seat' upon the bottom side or liange of the channel Il and the cover outwardly of the flange 20 also engage l.the beaded edge or' the top flange I8, an effective double seal will be provided to prevent the escape of odors from within the can. Also in this position, by turning the handle 2l 90 degrees more or less, the crossarm 2S will also be correspondingly turned to project the arms or bolts 29 through the slots 3E and outwardly in opposite directions to( engage the beaded channel Il beneathrand in contact with the top flange i3 in any position, thussecurely fastening the cover in position and against accidental displacement. In this way, should the beneath for-containing a disinfectant, prel'erably naphthalene for dispelling odors. The cover 'is pro'- videdwitlrdiarnetrically opposite parallel slots in its edge normal to a line connecting the hinge and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
VHaving thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secureby Letters l. A disinfectant receptacle for garbage cans and the like comprising a perforated receptacle having-a cover hinged at one side and a catch for securing thesame at the opposite side, said cover having diametrically opposite edge recesses noi'- inal to a line connecting the hinge and catch, a
cover for the can, a hinge suspending the receptaclethrough one recess from beneath the can cover and a spring catch carried beneath the can cover to detachab'ly engage-the receptacle through the other recess.
2. A disinfectant Vreceptacle for `garbage cans Vhaving a cover, consisting of a perforated Yreceptacle havinga beaded rim, a hinged cover fortne receptacle havingdiametricallyfopposite slots at its 'edge overrthe .riing a hinge suspending the tacie at the otherj-slot,V thefreceptacle and the c over oi" the receptacle beingin spaced relation to*v and under the cancoven 3. The receptacle is hinged `to*` the bottom face of the coverl' of the can il ilA through oneo'f 'the slots Sillas' indicated at 35 in' such a manner as to suspend pivot of thehinge Sfm spaced relation below the'cov'er le?.k t the opposite slot', the receptacle 3l" at Aits'beaded' rilnfis 'designedto be engaged by a spring clampf'or catch 3G consisting of opposed spring arms fastened to the bottom'of the cover on the diametrically1 opposite side of the Vpivot axisfof the handle'and depending therefrom to enter the other slot Sli and straddle or receive and resiliently engage or'grip'the beaded Vrim edgeV `of and hold the receptacle 3| in a suspended position at-the center of the can so thatthe disinfectant fumeswill deodorize and dispel -the for'insertion of thedisnfecting material and then closed andengagedwith the spring clamp to hold it in the position more particularly shown in Figs. land 3 ofthe drawing. i vFrom the foregoing, itwill be vseen that I provided avery desirablean'd efcient construction f for refuse or garbage cans to the end thatit may efficiently serve its purpose and facilitate handling thereof and disinfectingvthe same.
While I have illustrated and described the prel Yferred form of .construction for carrying my invention into eifect, this is capable of variation Ythrough the openings in its 'closure on oppositeV sides of and beneath thecan-engagingpart of the cover-securing means fronrand in spaced relation to the under side of the cover, to accomin'odatethe can-engaging'fpart of the 'securing means for the cover'lietvveen' the under'sideof the -cover and the top of the receptacle and to permit the Lreceptacle to swing down on its hinged suspension sothat the receptacle closure maybe openedrfor insertion of disinfecting material, and means to detachably fasten the receptacle'elosure in closedV position at the side opposite the hinge thereof', whereby the receptacle may ce-swung upwardly for engagement with vits detachable suspension.
'a .springcatch detachablysecuring the receptacle to the rcanvcoverat: the opposite side against dropping down Von the hinged mounting.
57A disinfectant-receptacle for-garbage cans I having acover, consisting of a perforated receptacle, a perforated cover for the receptacle having diametrically opposite slots, a hinge-atY one side of the receptacle suspending the `receptfalcle from the can Ycover through: one slot, and means carried by the can cover at the other side of the receptacle and engagedA throughV the fother slot and with the WeillV ofthe vreceptacle at its rim o forreleasably holding the receptacle inan up- 1 right position, so that the receptacle is suspended sion for the receptaolefromthe underside of the can cover through one islot, andv a springv catch depending from the under side'of thefcan I Y cover for detachably engaging and holding the. receptacle through jthe other'sot so that, the
