I uUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FELIX J. ROSENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,618, dated August 24:, 1880.
Application filed May 13, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FELIX J. ROSENBERG, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pantaloon-Pockets', of which the following is a specification. l
My invent-ion relates t0 improvements in double-cell pockets, and is an improvement upon my invention for which I filed an application for Letters Patent or" the United States on 012 about the 8th day of April, 1880, the object being to manufacture pockets substantially of three layers of fabric composing two cells of the same character as described inthe speciiication and claims filed with my aforesaid application, but with material improvements and in a more economical manner. I attain these objects by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents one of my pockets made up. `Fig. 2 represents a blank shape of the fabric from which the pocket is formed.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts on each figure.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l represents one of my two-cell pockets having a side opening, a, and an upper opening, a. The side opening` leads into the main pocket. Between the sides of this main pocket is au intermediate layer, B, of fabric,v preferably not extending down to the lowermost part of the main pocket, but terminating at about the point indicated by dotted lines, Fig. l. This intermediate layer is stitched to one edge of the main sides, thus forming a supplementary pocket, which cannot be entered at the side, but only through an opening at the top, as shown at a', which opening would be directly under the waistband of a pair of pantaloons.
The entrance to the supplementary pocket may, however, be through other upper openings, as illustrated in Fig. l, a af.
. A blank being first cut of the shape shown in Fig. 2, (although the lower part of the wing B may be extended down and shaped as indicated by the dotted line 11,) the fabric is then folded at the line x ov until the side o o reaches the dividing-line p p on the main portion A. After folding as described the two parts are stitched together, and a one-cell pocket is thus formed. Theopposite' half, A', is then folded over the two other layers, and the several parts are stitched together from p to l, thence to 2, thence to 3, leaving the side opening, a, below which the stitching is resumed at 4, thence to the line of folding x Jv, thence up the side, leaving the opening a, as before described.
The peculiar feature of my improvement is that I cut my whole three-layer' pocket from one blank, dispensing with a side seam, thus saving considerable labor and expense.
It is obvious that the outlines and shape of my pockets may be varied as taste or convenience may dictate without departing from my invention.
1. A double-cell pocket made with independent non-commnnicating upper and side entrance openings, all cut from one piece and folded, substantially as described.
2. The blank for forming a three-Wall pocket, consisting of two main wings, A A', and a supplementary side wing, B, all cut out of one piece of fabric, substantially as described.
, FELIX J. ROSENBERG.
