UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' BENJAMIN F. BEE, OF HARWIOH, MASSACHUSETTS.
BUTTON-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,853, dated July 13, 1880.
Application filed December 22, 1879.
To all whom t'tmay concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. BEE, of Harwich, in the county of Barn stable and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others-skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference'being-had to the accompanyin g drawings, which form a part of this specificationr V Figure l is a perspective view, illustrating the parts of my improved fastening,,- Fig. 2 is a view showing the fastener and staple in position before bending the latter. Fig. 3 is a view showing the fastener and staple in position with the ends of the latter bent, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the fastening (30111 plete. I Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
This invention relates to devices for fastening or securing buttons; and it consists in cer tain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
My improved button-fastener consists of two separate partsviz., a staple, A, having sharp pointed ends, so as to readily pierce the fabric to which buttons are to be secured, and a small disk or plate, B, of metal, provided with eyes 0 O to receive the ends of the staple, a notch, D, and an annular recess, E, to accommodate the ends of the staple when bent or twisted to accomplish the fastening.
In operation the button is first adjusted upon the staple. Next the ends of the staple are passed through the fabric, to which the button is thus attached. The diskB is now adjusted upon the staple with its annular recess adjoinin g the fabric. The ends of the staple are then bent down into the notch D, and finally twisted in opposite directions and tucked into the recess E, thus completing a very neat and durable fastening.
' Having thus described my invention, I claim and desireto secure by Letters, Patent of the United States N As an improvement in button-fasteners, the combination, with a metallic sharp-pointed staple, of a:.holding-disk having a notch and an annular groove to receive the ends of said staple, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. BEE.
