UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY B. PERHAM, OF CAIRO, ILLINOIS.
BLACKlNG-BRUSH HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,748, dated July 6, 1880.
Application filed April 21, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY B. PERHAM, of Cairo, Alexander county, Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Blacking-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in securing blackingbrushes for transportation or packing in trunks with wearing-apparel by an incasing crossbelt, which not only retains them in a compact form, but incases them so as to prevent the surrounding articles from being soiled.
In the accompanying drawings,Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved brush packed with another brush, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the two brushes.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i
A brush, A, is provided with very coarse bristles B at one end and with finer bristles G at the other end, and a space Without any bristles, and large enough to receive box E of blacking, remaining in the middle of the brush.
(N0 model.) Patented in Canada February 25, 1879.
strap or belt, G, passing around the brushes and attached to another strap or belt, H, surrounding the sides of the brushes. The strap or belt H is closed by means of a button, J or some other suitable device.
The within-described brush is very handy, and can be packed among articles of clothing without soiling them, as it is entirely covered by the belts or straps.
The construction may be modified by using only one kind of bristles on the brush and by arranging the space for the box E at the end of the brush instead of in the middle. However, the first-described arrangement is preferred.
Before use the blacking is removed, so that the brush having bristles A B may be readily applied thereto.
1. am aware that it is not new to use bristles of varying thickness on the same brush, or a space for the blacking-box between the bristles; but
What 1 claim as new is- The incasing cross-belt G H, combined with two blacking brushes having their bristles placed opposite each other, as and for the purpose specified.
