I. S. COHEN. Combined Tippet and Collaret.
No. 228,873. Pate nted June 15,1880.
WITNESSES Y E N R o T T A mPETERs, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON. D. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ISAAC S. COHEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED TIPPET AND COLLA RET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,873, dated June 15, 1880.
Application filed March 20, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC S. COHEN, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Tippet and Gollaret; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of .the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawingsis a representation of a perspective view of my improved collar. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an inside View thereof.
This invention has relation to improvements in fur collars; and it consists in a fur collar and collaret secured together by an intermediate spring-piece, by means of which the collar is thrown up or down,as hereinafter shown and described.
In the annexed drawings, the letterA indicates a fur collar of suitable dimensions shaped to fit the contour of the neck, shoulders, and breast, and B is a collaret of silk, cloth,or other fabric, of similar form.
The collar and collaret are united together at their upper edges by a spring piece, 0, inade'usually of the same material as the collaret, and the said collaret extends, as shown, below the fur.
The collaret fastens in front by means of hooks and eyes or other equivalent devices, and, extending down well below the fur, acts as a protector for the shoulders and chest, where there is usually a deficiency. of clothing.
(No model.)
As shown in Fig. 2, the fur is folded over upon itself to form the roll a of the collar and overlies the springpiece O, or, when it is not deemed expedient to use one, the upper part of the collaret.
In putting on the improved device the collaret is placed under the neck and shoulder of the outer garment, while the fur collar is turned down over the neck of the said garment on its outside. It will thus be clear that not only does the underlying collaret serve as a chest-protector, but also retains the collar on the person very securely, so that there is no liability of the same falling off and being lost, as often happens with ordinary fur collars when they are loosened or unfastened in front.
This improved device is equally adapted for ladies or gentlemens use, and is of such a compact form that when removed from the person it may be folded and placed in a pocket.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combined tippet and collaret, consisting of the fur collar A and the woven collaret B, secured together by an intermediate springpiece, 0, by means of which the collar is thrown up or down, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC S. COHEN.
