The present invention relates to a combined walker and serving'table.

An important object of the invention is to provide a device-of this character that isadapted-to be disposed inone position for aiding invalids in walking and when-disposed in another position "will present an attractive household article of furniture.

Another objectof theinvention is to provide a device of this character that can be freely moved by invalids and others whose power of locomotion is impaired, the device presenting a steady influence when used in the act of walking.

A further-object of the invention resides in the provision of adevice having the above characteristics that can beequally used as autilit-y or serving table, the same being mounted onsupporting members and having shelves for supporting various articles.

The invention also'consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device being shown in vertical position and used as a walker.

Figure 2' is a side elevational View of the device disposed in a horizontal position and used as a 3 serving table or the like.

Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the device as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 4 is an end elevational view of the de: vice as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken sub stantially on line 5-5 of Figure 2.

Figure 6 is a detail sectional view taken substantially on line 6--6 of Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the combined walker and serving table is generally designated in the several views by the reference numeral 8, the same comprising upper and lower pairs of bars 9 and I9 respectively, arranged in V-relation. The bars 9 and II] are united at one end by means of opposed plates ll of substantially triangular contour. The bars 9 and I and plates Il may be formed of wood, metal or other desired materials and the same are united by means of suitable fastening elements. It is understood that the plates ll hold the bars 9 and ID in their relative angular relation and that said bars extend beyond the base or broad edges l2 of said plates.

The triangular shaped plates II are united at their narrow edges by means of an elongated plate l3 which forms a front Wall for the device when supported in the vertical position shown in Figure 1 of the drawing and forms a top wall for the device when supported in the horizontal posi- 10 tion shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. The base or broad edges l2 of the plates H have attached thereto a shelf M which forms a supporting surface -for various articles when the-device is used as a serving table or similar article of furniture.

Longitudinally extending bars 15 and iii are extends "beyond the bars l0 and which are provided 'with'gliders I 8. The end plate I3 is provided near its small edge with a caster or roller IS. The gliders I8 and roller l9 function when the device is used as a walker at which time it is disposed in a vertical position as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, said gliders and roller facilitating movement of the device by the invalid. The longitudinal edges of the bars iii are also provided with gliders 20 which facilitate movement of the device when it is disposed in a horziontal position and serves as a table or similar article of furniture.

The diverging bars 9 have strips 2| attached thereto forming hand grips when the device is 5 used as a walker. As is to be understood, the strips 2| are engaged by the hands of the user in the manner shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, the device acting as a steadying influence for an invalid or other person whose power of locomotion has been impaired.

As more particularly shown in Figures 2, 3 and 5 of the drawing, the device is equally adaptable for use as a serving table or similar article of furniture, Various articles can be supported on 5 the plate l3 and the shelf l4. Strips 22 are provided along each longitudinal edge of the shelf M for rendering a finished appearance to the device and also function to retain articles supported thereon.

0 From the above description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it Will be readily apparent that the device is adapted to be used as a walker or as a table. When used as a table, the plates l3 and I4 constitute a top and shelf respectively, and the table is supported by the longitudinal bars l5. When used as a walker, the device is supported by the gliders l8 and roller l9 and the projecting ends of the bars 9 constitute handles for the user to grip, while walking between the bars 9 and ID, as shown in Figure 1, and as the device is pushed in advance of the user, it can be readily guided, and the upper plate I I can be used for conveying articles from place to place, as Will be apparent. The device is simple in construction and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.

It will be understood by those skilled in the art that variations in the hereinabove described device involving the substitution of substantial equivalents for the devices described are intended to be comprehended within the spirit of the present invention and that the invention is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as expressed in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1, A device of the character described comprising an elongated front section, a pair of legs attached to each end of the said section and extending rearwardly therefrom in diverging relation, a pair of transversely disposed plates secured to the upper and lower sides of the said legs, a vertically disposed bar secured to and extending between each vertically spaced pair of legs, a glider attached to the lower end of each of the said bars, and a caster attached to and depending from the lower transverse plate.

A combined walker and serving table of the character described comprising, an elongated front plate, a pair of bars secured to each end of the said plate, the said bars extending rear- Wardly in diverging relation from the sides of the said plate, a pair of transverse tapered plates secured to the top and bottom of the respective pairs of bars and extending rearwardly from the front plate to points intermediate the ends of the said bars, a pair of vertical bars secured to and extending between each side pair of the diverging bars and extending below the lowermost bar at each side, a glider attached to the bottom end of each of the said vertical bars and depending therefrom for movement along the support surface, and a caster secured to the forward end portion of the lower transverse plate and depending therefrom to form a front rotatable support member.

A combined walker and serving table of the character described comprising, an elongated front plate, apair of bars secured to each end of the said plate, the said bars extending rearwardly in diverging relation from the sides of the said plate, a pair of transverse tapered plate secured to the top and bottom of the respective pairs of bars and extending rearwardly from the front plate to points intermediate the ends of the said bars, a pair of vertical bars secured to and extending between each side pair of the diverging bars and extending below the lowermost bar at each side, a glider attached to the bottom end of each of the said vertical bars and depending therefrom for movement along the support surface, a caster secured to the forward end portion of the lower transverse plate and depending therefrom to form a front rotatable support member, a reinforcing plate attached to the intermediate portions of the said diverging bars parallel with and rearwardly of the front plate, and a plurality of strips secured in parallel longitudinally extending arrangement to the opposed sides of the rearwardly projecting portion of each of the diverging bars.
