My invention relates to a toilet stool particularly adapted for infants, and important objects of the invention are to provide a toilet stool, of the character described, which will comfortably and safely accommodate a child and quickly acquaint the latteras to its use and purpose, which may be readily converted to and employed as an ordinary small bench without obvious suggestions as to its actual toilet purposes, which permits the placing of a child thereon or the removal of the latter therefrom with the utmost facility, and which is further convertible to accommodate children of different sizes.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a device, of the class stated, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, and attractive in appearance,

, durable and efiicient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter referred to, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention hereinafter disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views Figures 1 and 2, are respectively, side and 3 end views of a toilet stool, constructed in accordance with the invention as used for an ordinary bench.

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on line 3-3, Figure 1.

Figures 4 and 5 are, respectively, front and end views of the device as employed for toilet purposes, the former being partly in cross section.

Referring in detail to the drawings my improved toilet stool comprises a flat, oblong rectangularly shaped top 1, which is carried by a pair of flat, upwardlytapering, supporting legs 2. The legs 2 are spread and fixedly secured in position adjacent to respective ends of the top 1, converging toward 1930. Serial N0. 443,077.

the upper ends thereof. The lower ends of the supporting legs 2 are recessed, as at 3, to more readily adapt them to surfaces upon which the device may be positioned.

A toilet seat 4 is fixedly secured in position between the pair of supporting legs 2 and beneath the top 1. The toilet seat 4 is disposed vertically edgewise and at right angles with respect to the top 1, and is vertically offset relatively to the vertical longitudinal centers of the supporting legs 2 and of the top 1. The seat 4 serves to brace the top 1 and supporting legs 2 and thereby provides a substantial and sturdy stool structure.

- The toilet seat 4 is provided with a circular seat opening 5 and with a depending lower portion 6, the lower edge ofwhich is disposed above the lower end of the supporting legs 2 and extends approximately parallel to the lower wall portion of the seat opening 5, as 1 clearly shown in Figure 1.

When employing the stool for toilet purposes the same is turned over on either side thereof, as illustrated in Figures 4 and 5. The lower side edge portions 7 of the supporting legs 2 are vertically aligned with respective side edges of the top 1, and in consequence, when the stool is turned on its side the latter will rest upon the respective side edges 7 of the legs 2 and upon the respective side edge of the top 1, and the toilet seat 4 will be disposed on an exact horizontal plane ready for use.

The toilet seat 4 being ofiset, the device, when turned on one side, as shown in Figure 4, is adapted for accommodating a comparatively young or small infant. When the device is turned over on its other side, as illustrated in Figure 5, the toilet seat 4 will be elevated and adapted for accommodating an older or larger child.

The wall of the toilet seat opening 5.and the lower edge of the lower dependingseat portion 6 are rounded. This feature, in conjunction with the configuration of the said depending seat portion 6, together with the spread of the supporting legs 2, establishes a most comfortable seating structure for the purpose designed, regardless of which side the device may be placed on for use.

In the use of my improved toilet stool, the receptacle 8 is placed under the toilet seat 4: directly beneath the seat opening 5, and is completely concealed from view While the seat 4 is occupied.

The top 1 and supporting legs 2, respectively, obviously constitute a back and side members, respectively, for the seat 4, whereby the occupant is adequately supported on, and assured against inadvertently falling from the device.

The stool top 1 is provided with a centrally disposed, elongated, handhole 9 for facilitating handling of the device. The upper end of the seat 4 is formed with a recess 10, which provides ample clearance for the engagement of the hand in the handhole 9.

My improved toilet stool is preferably constructed from wood, but it is evident that the same may be made from metal or any other suitable material. Further, the stool is suitably painted in any attractive colors desired.

l/Vhen the stool is disposed upright, as when not in use for toilet purposes, it constitutes and provides an attractive, small bench, the utilitarian purposes of which will not be apparent to the casual observer.

The present invention provides a most eriicient device of its kind, which may be substantially and attractively constructed at a very low cost.

What I claim is:

1. A toilet stool of the character described comprising a top member, supporting elements for said top member, and a seat member provided with a circular seat opening and depending from said top member at right angles relatively to the latter, a portion of the side edges of each of said supporting elements being aligned with the respective side edges of said top member for positioning said seat member on a horizontal plane when the latter and said supporting elements are positioned to rest on said respective side edges thereof.

A toilet stool of the character described comprising atop member, supporting elements for said top member, and a seat member provided with a circularseat opening and depending from said top member at right angles relatively to the latter, said seat member being ofiset with respect to the vertical longitudinal centers of said top member and of said supporting elements, a portion of the side edges or" each of said supporting elements being aligned with the respective side edges of saidtopmember for positioning said seat member on a horizontal plane when the latter and said supporting elements are positioned to rest on said respective side edges thereof.

3. A stool, of the character described, comprising a top member, supporting elements for said top member, and a toilet seat having an opening, said toilet seat being disposed between said supporting elements and below said top member, said toilet seat further extending at right angles relatively to said top member and being offset with respect to the vertical centers of said supporting elements.

4. A stool of the character described, comprising a top member, supporting elements for said top member, a seat member being disposed between said supporting elements and below said top member, said seat member further extending at right angles relatively to said top member and being offset with respect to the vertical centers of said supporting elements.

5. In combination, a stool of the character described, comprising a rectangularly shaped top member, a pair of upwardly tapering supporting legs having their upper ends fixedly secured adjacent to respective ends of said top member and converging toward each other, a toilet seat having an opening, said toilet seat being secured between said pair of supporting legs and depending .from said top member at right angles relatively to the latter.
