Description

July 1, 1930. s. B. NICOLL COMBINATION HIGH CHAIR AND TABLE Filed Oct. 22, 1928 Z jii/V/COLZ J 4%,
Patented July 1, 1930 UNITED STUART B. NICOLL, OF BROOKZl'jYIl ll', NEW
COMBINATION HIGH CHAIR- AND TLE Application filed October 22, 1928. Serial No. 314,225.
My invention relates to improvements in combination high chairs and tables, and the object of the invention is to devise a device which will dispense with the ordinary high chair and yet may be used as such when desired, or converted into a table with the chair folded and concealed therein, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
' Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my device showing it adapted for use as a table.
Fig. 2 is a similar View to Fig. 1 showing the device used as a high chair, and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the parts in the position they assume when used as a table and, in the dotted position, when used as a high chair.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 indicates a rectangular frame supported upon table legs 2. 3 is a half top of the table provided with a moulding 3*. The half top 3 is secured in a stationary position to form 5 one end of the table top. 4 is a hinged half top secured to the half top 3 as indicated at 5*. The half top 4 isalso provided with a surrounding moulding 4 to correspond with the moulding 3* of the stationary half top 3.
When the half top 4 is folded back in the position shown in Figure 2, the moulding 43 serves as an edging around the table top so that it may be used as a childs tray.
5 is a seat secured in the frame of the table.
The seat 5 is connected by a post 7 to the under faceof the table-top portion 3 which not only serves to support the front edge of the seat 5, but keeps the child in position by straddling the brace 7 so that a leg ex- 40 tends on each side of the brace, preventing any danger of its falling out of the seat.
8 is a seat back which is hingedly connected at 8 to the seat 5 and when swung upward into the dottedposition shown in Figure 3 serves as a chair back. 9 is a foot rest pivoted at each end to the frame 1 so as to extend transversely of the frame in front of the seat 5 and in a suitable position for the child to rest his feet thereon.
When this device is used as a table the parts I are in the position shown in Figure 1 andin the full line position in Figure 3. When it is used as a high chair for a child the table top portion 4 is swung back upon its hinge into the dotted position shown in Figure 3, the
seat back swung upward to its dotted position and the foot down to its dotted position.
From the above description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple construction which may be ordinarily used as a table and yet may be readily converted into a high chair whenever desired, all the parts forming the high chair being concealed when it is in use as a table.
.What I claim as my invention is:
1.. In a combination high chair and table, the combination with a unitary open bottomed rectangular frame, of a transversely divided table top, one portion secured permanently to the corresponding portion of the frame and the other portion constituting a flap hinged to the permanently secured portion and normally adapted to rest on top of the remaining part of the frame, a seat secured in the frame underneath the hinged table top portion, and a hinged back for the seat adapted to lie normally within the frame but adapted to be swung up into position upon the hinged table top portion being swung over onto the permanent table top portion.
2. In a combination high chairand table, the combination with a unitary open bot: tomed rectangular frame, of a transversely divided table top, one portion secured permanently to the corresponding portion of the frame and the other portion constituting afiap hinged to the permanently secured portion and normally adapted to rest on the remaining part of the frame, a seat secured in the frame underneath the hinged table top portion a hinged back for the seat adapted to lie normally Within the frame and adapted to be swung up into position upon the hinged table top portion being swung over onto the permanent table top portion, and a foot rest in front of the seat, said foot rest hinged to the frame and adapted to be swung down below the same, said foot rest being normally 10 disposed in a substantially horizontal position in such frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
STUART B. NICOLL'.
