PIPE-WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming :partl of Letters Patent N'o. 227,768, dated May 18, 1880,
Application filed April 5, 1880. (No model.)
`To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GRIFFITH W. GRIFFITHs, of Tecumseh, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Wrenches5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being hadvto the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forms part of this specification. in which the iigure is a perspective view of my wrench. 4
rIhe object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective pipe-wrench; and it consists in a straight metal bar whose upper end is forked to form two jaws, one ot' which is smooth and the other is provided with two serrated steel cheeks projecting beyond the inner edge of the jaw, whereby the pipe is held hetter and firmer, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the handle of my wrench,which is broadened and forked at the upper end to form two jaws, B C. The jaw B is smooth upon its inner face, while the jaw C is provided on each side with a steel cheek, D, having its inner edges formed with serrations d d, which project a suitable distance beyond the face of the jaw C, leaving a groove or concave, e, be-

kHaving thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, .the withindescribed pipe wrench, having a V-shaped mouth, one jaw of which is provided with serrated steel cheeks D D, which project beyond the face of the jaw, thus leaving a trough or concave, e, between them., substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
