Description

Nbv. 18, 1941. E. F. CORNWALL 2,263,486
FASTENING DEVICE FOR WINDOW AND PICTURE FRAMES Filed se t. 23-, 1940 v INVENTO I I v aa jam I ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 18, 1941 FASTENING DEVICE FOR WINDOW AND PICTURE FRAMES Edward F. Cornwall, Union Township, Union County, N. J.
Application September 23, 1940, Serial No. 357,851
2 Claims.
This invention relates to pane and picture mounting fastening devices for window and pic- I ture frames, and its general object is to provide a fastening device that can be easily and expeditiously applied with minimum effort and merely by the application of pressure thereto, which causes fastening device to penetrate the frame and draw the glass or picture mounting parts downward toward the frame to prevent accidental removal or displacement,
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a device of the above mentioned character set forth, that is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and extremely efficient in use and service.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters denote like and corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which:
Fig. 1 is a view illustrating one formof my fastening device in use with a picture frame or the like,
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional somewhat enlarged view taken approximately on line :c-:r of Fi 1,
Figs. 3 and 4 are, respectively, a plan and side View of the device, and
Figs, 5, 6, and 7 are, respectively, a plan, side, and end view of another form of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, and particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, it will be noticed that I have illustrated the preferred form of my fastening device for use in picture mounting and the like, which is preferably formed from a single piece of suitable sheet metal or the like to provide a body I preferably but not necessarily of substantially triangular formation, with one end thereof provided with a penetrating point 2, while the opposed end is provided with a downwardly extending driving edge or heel 3, the entire construction having a wedge-like effect, which proves most effective for the uses intended.
In the slightly modified form illustrated in Figs. 5 to 7, inclusive, a similar single piece of suitable sheet metal or the like, as above described, is employed having the body 10 thereof provided with a slightly concaved portion 4 extending from one end 5 forwardly toward the penetrating point 2.
The fastening device illustrated can be easily and expeditiously applied, in the usual manner, with minimum effort, and merely by the application of pressure thereto, by means of a hammer or pliers, which causes the fastening device to penetrate the frame 6, and draw or wedge the glass 1, the picture 8 and backing 9 downward toward the frame to prevent accidental removal or displacement.
While the fastening devices are primarily designed to be used for mounting pictures, they of course can be used for securing panes in window frames, or in other words. in the same capacity as the well known glaziers points.
The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or lirnitative of the invention, of which, obviously, embodiments may be constructed, including many modifications, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention herein set forth and denoted in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A fastening device, consisting solely of a thin flat metal member of triangular shape having a right angularly directed flange at the base thereof.
2. A fastening device, consisting solely of a triangular member of thin metal, said member having a flange on one side thereof.
EDWARD F. CORNWALL.
