Description
Fatented Sept. 7, 1926.
'rnnononn A. noncnr, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
sren HOLDER FOR noons.
Application filed November 20, 1925. ,Serial No. 70,384.
The object of my present invention is the provision of a sign holder for use on a door when the latter is closed, the said holder being susceptible of cheap production'and a being adapted to be securely held and supported by a closed door without marrlng the door and without the employment of any extraneous attaching means whatever.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the
i invention. consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification I Figure 1 is an elevation showing a closed door and v Figure 2 is a horizontal section taken in the plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective of my novel holder per se. v
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings. I v
I show in Figure 1 an ordinary door 1 and one side stile 2 of a door frame, the stile2 having the usual stop 3 against which the closed door abuts, Figure 2- As best shown in Figure 3 my novel holder is formed of a single piece of appro:
priate metal and includes a body plate 4;,
the said clip 7 being of general U-shape and possessed of resiliency and having the end of its free portion or arm flared as indicated to by 8. The shank of the said clip 7, is'1ntegral with the plate 4 and extends from one end thereof at a point between the flanges 6. Manifestly the holder characterized as described is adapted to be very cheaply produced from a blank which may be stamped or otherwise "fabricated from sheet metal.
The flanges 5 and 6 are sufficiently deep to permit of a pad or a plurality of sheets of paper or the like being confined 1n the flanges 5 and 6 and against the face of the body plate 4. WVhen a pad or a plurality of sheets of paper are used as stated a memorandum may be ,made' on the outermost sheet of paper, and then whenthe memorandum has served its purpose, the said sheet of paper maybe removed from the holder to and so on. V
The clip 7 is preferably possessed of resiliency as stated in order to maintain the holder on the vertical free edge of the door before the door is closed. Then when the door is fully closed 'as shown in Figures 1 and 2, it will be apparent that the clip 7 will be strongly secured between the door edge on the one hand and the stile 2, on the other. secured as stated the major portion of the holder will be carried at the face of the door in position to attract attention to the mes sage in the holder.
Not only is my novel holder simple and inexpensive in construction, but it is materially advantageousbecause of the fact that its strong attachment in the manner stated does not entail the employment of nails,
It will also'be apparent that when screws or other fastening devices which are objectionable because they mar the finished appearance of a door.
I have specifically described the preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart an eXact understanding of said embodiment. Ido not desire, however, to be understood as confiningmyselfto the-disclosed construction inasmuch asv my inven-- tion is defined by my appended claim within the scope of which changes may be'made without departure from my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to'secure by Letters Patcut, is i I 7 As a new article of manufacture, a sign holder formed from asingle strip of metal and adapted fordoors, said sign holder comprising a body adapted to rest against the face of a door and which provides the sign carrying portion thereof, a clip extending ceive the edge of the door and also shaped wvhen the door is closedto be secured beshaped spaced flanges on one end edge there of, and the said .clip being e'xtendedfrom between the last mentioned flanges and being ofv general U-shape'configurationfor the r purpose as above stated. permit of the use of the next sheet of paper THEODORE A. DOUCE'IX;
from one end of the body and shaped to re- In testimony whereof I affix my signature. I
