APPLICATION FILED JAN-17,1919.

UNIVERSAL CARD HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. '7, 1922.
Application filed January 17, 1919. Serial No. 271,596.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED HAsKnL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Universal Card Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to card holders and has for one of its objects the provision of a simple construction which can be cheaply manufactured, which can be adjusted to different widths to receive different sized cards, and in which the body portlons which are adapted to be secured to the support, are covered by the card engaging the holder. Another object of the invention is to provide a construction in which the portion of the holder adapted to receive the card is located in a plane in advance of the body portion of the holder and also in advance of the headed securing means for the body portion, whereby the card, when inserted into the holder, clears the headed securing means. Other objectsof the invention reside in the novel arrangements and combinations of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a. front elevation of a construction embodying my invention, showing a card in engagement therewith;
Figure 2 is a cross-section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a front elevation showing the same construction of a card holder used with a different sized card.
The card holder comprises the cooperating holder members 1 and 2, which are preferably stampings. Each holder member has the body portion 3 which lies against the support 4 and is secured thereto by means of suitable headed securing members 5, such as tacks. 6 is a transverselyextending ear at one end of the body portion for limiting the movement of the card 7 longitudinally of the card holder when in engagement therewith. 8 is a rebent or groove portion for receiving the edge of the card 7, this groove portion having substantially parallel top and bottom walls 9 and 10 respectively connected by the side or web 11. 12 is an outwardlyinclined portion extending from the outer edge of the body portion 3 to the inner edge of the bottom wall 10, the arrangement being such that the groove portion 8- of the holder member is in a plane in advance of the headed securing members 5 so that the card I when in engagement with the groove portion clears the headed securing members.
As shown in Figure 3, the card holder is of the same construction but has its holder members adjusted toward each other to rein advance of the former, the card engag-v ing the latter covers the body portions and the headed securing means therefor and also clears the same, so that the card may be easily slid into engagement with the card holder.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A card holder comprising a pair of spaced card-holding members, each member comprising an attaching portion having a laterally oflset card-receiving ortion ex tending from its outer edge w ereby the card will cover the attaching portion and will be spaced therefrom.
2. A card holder comprising a pair of spaced card-holding members, each member being stamped from sheet metal and formed to provide an attaching portion terminating along its outer edge in a rebent card-receiving portion disposed in a laterally offset relation to said attaching portion whereby the card will cover the attaching portion and will be spaced therefrom.
3. A card holder comprising a pair of spaced card-holding members, each member being stamped from sheet metal and formed to provide an attaching portion terminating along its outer edge in a rebent card-receiving portion disposed in a laterally olfset relation to said attaching portion whereby the card will cover the attaching portion and will be spaced therefrom, one end of said attaching portion being bent outwardly to form a stop for the card.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
FRED HASKEL.
