Description
Nov. 13, 1956 E, F. PASCH CURTAIN ROD HOLDER Filed June 4, 1955 Erwin Pose!) INVENTOR.
BY w mm United States Patent C cc CURTAIN ROD HOLDER Erwin F. Pasch, Hancock, Minn.
Application June 4, 1953, Serial No. 359,473
1 Claim. (Cl. 248-262) This invention relates generally to improvements in curtain rod holders and pertains more particularly to a specific construction of curtain rod holders which require no nails or other fastening elements for proper positioning in association with a window casing.
A primary object of this invention resides in the provisions of an improved form of curtain rod holder which is simple and economical in design and is yet fully effective to produce the desired results in the most elficient manner, the holder requiring no external fastening means for installation.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one corner of a Window casing showing the improved holder secured thereon;
Figure 2 is a vertical section taken substantially along the plane of section line 2-2 of Figure 1 showing the disposition of the holder;
:Figure 3 is a rear perspective view of the holder showing details of its construction; and
Figure 4 is a front perspective view of the holder showing further details of its construction.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein a preferred embodiment of the assembly is shown, reference numeral indicates generally a portion of a window casing whereas reference numeral 12 indicates generally a window frame having the window light 14 therein, The top surface 16 and the vertical side surface 18 of the casing join to form a corner in the wellknown manner and disposed thereat is the improved holder assembly generally indicated by the reference character 20. This holder includes the horizontal leg 22 and the vertical leg 24, each of which is adapted to overlie a corresponding portion of the window casing in the manner shown. As shown more clearly in Figure 3, the rear coplanar edges 26 and 28 of the horizontal and vertical legs respectively are joined by the diagonal retaining web 30 flush with said edges in the manner shown, and this web fonns an important feature of this invention inasmuch as the same is disposed behind the casing and retains the assembly in proper position thereon as will be readily apparent. The curtain rod ear indicated generally by the reference character 36 extends in a forward direction from the vertical leg 24 and includes the pointed portion 38 separated from the leg 24 by the notched portion 40 and which is received in the fastening hole 42 in the laterally bent end portion 44 of the curtain rod assembly indicated generally by the reference char- 2,770,437 Patented Nov. 13, 1956 acter 46, the lower portion of the ear being provided with the front edge cam portion 48 of compound curvature received within the end of the curtain rod and serving to maintain the point in proper engagement therewith.
It will be appreciated that the above described structure is extremely simple in construction but operates on a principle to positively maintain the holder in proper engagement with the window casing without marring the surface thereof or of the surface of the surrounding wall portion, as is the case with usual curtain rod holder assemblies.
From the manufacturing standpoint, the device is of extremely efiicient design inasmuch as it may be made from a suitable stamping and initially take the form of a flat sheet of material cut to the proper configuration and subsequently bent along the edges indicated by the reference characters 50 and 52 respectively so that the adjacent end portions 54 and 56 of the horizontal and vertical legs respectively are disposed in juxtaposed relation as shown. These adjacent ends may be suitably secured together if desired, but it is preferred for reasons of economy not to do so but to merely allow these adjacent ends to abut, this in no way detracting from the efiiciency of the holder.
It will, of course, be readily appreciated that this economy of construction is of prime importance inasmuch as the unit cost of individual holders can be reduced to such a point that the resultant article may be offered to the ultimate consumer at a minimum of expense.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood .and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A curtain rod holder comprising a bracket having right angularly disposed vertical and horizontal leg portions adapted to fit over a corner of a Window casing and having coplanar rear edges, a retaining web extending diagonally of said leg portions between and flush with the rear edges thereof, said leg portions having front edges free of each other, and a curtain rod engaging ear extending forwardly from the front edge of said vertical leg portion coplanar therewith, said ear having an upper pointed port-ion engageable in an opening in a curtain rod and further having a front edge of compound curvature adapted to fit in a curtain rod to hold the same in place on said pointed portion.
