This invention relates to fastening clevices. and has particular reference to means 1 for hanging or mounting pictures, cards, posters and the like upon a suitable supporting surface, such asia wall, screen or the like. I The principal object of this invention is to produce a device of this character which will obviate the necessity of making a hole in the picture or mount, thus preventing the mutilation of the same.

Heretofore, it has been common to employ thumb tacks, ordinary tacks, nails or pins for the purpose of mounting pictures or cards upon a surface. It isa tedious process to employ thumb tacks and at the same time, it presents an unsightly appearance. Moreover, the thumb tacks require two to each corner which is an expense and mate rially detracts from the appearance of the picture. 'I have therefore devised a means for mounting pictures which consists of a metal corner bracket having a fastening element secured thereto, which fastening element is adapted to enter the supporting surface, such as a wall.

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the

numeral 5' designates an angular wall contacting fiat portion of my'device which is preferably made of metal, and substantially triangular in shape. Formed integral with this angular portion is a raised portion 6 connected thereto by intermediate inclined portions? and 8f A securi g element is shown at 9 (see Figure 4-). This securing element is adapted to enter the supporting surface as shown in Figure 2. In Figure 3 I have shown the fastening element at 11, which is punched from the metal forming my device, so as to be integral therewith.

In the modified form shown in Figure 6, I attach by solder riveting or otherwise to the inclined portions 7 and 8 a spring 12 adapted to contact the under-surface of the object being held, as for instance the mount 13 shown in Figure 5. I have found that in hanging pictures upon soft material such as burlap commonly use-d in galleries results in the mounting becoming marred due to the fact that the holding element has no firm backing. By .applying the spring '12, the edge of the mounting is securely held with an even pressure on both sides thereof, thus preventing any marring of the mount.

The end of this spring 12 is bent so as to contact the supporting surface, as shown in Figure 5. This also provides for the easy gripping of the edge of the mount.

In employing my device the picture is placed upon the wall, one of my devices is placed adjacent each corner and the fartening element carried by the "device is pushed into the support. If it is desired,

the pictures may be changed without removing the devices or the device may be readily removed and used again.

It will thus be seen that I have constructed a device which will perform all of the objects above set forth.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A print holding device comprising a plate provided with a fiat portion adapted to lie against a Wall and a raised portion connected to said flat portion by an intermediate portion extending angularly from one to the other, a tack point projecting rearwardly from a portion of the device adapted for penetrating the Wall, and a spring secured to said intermediate portion arranged to bear outwardly against the under side of said raised portion.

2. A print holding device comprising a plate provided with a flat portion adapted to lie against a wall and a raised portion connected to said flat portion by an intermediate portion extending angularly from one to the other, a tack point projecting rearwardly from a portion of the device adapted for penetrating the wall, and a spring secured to said intermediate portion arranged to bear outwardly against the under side of said raised portion, said spring provided with an extension adapted to bear against the Wall when the device is in place.

A print holding device comprising a plate provided with a flat portion adapted to lie against a Wall and a raised portion providing a free space to the wall therebeneath connected to said flat portion by an intermedlate portion extending angularly from one to the other, and a tack point pro-- jecting rearWardly from said intermediate portion.
