PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS MARION SMITH, OF POGATEIiLO, IDAHO.
DEVICE FOR ATTACHING SIGNS TO GLASS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 2'7, 1921,
Application filed June 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,502.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS MARION SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pocatello, in the county of Bannock and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Attachlng Signs to Glass, of which, the following 1s a specification.
This invention has reference to a means for attaching advertising sheets, cards, etc., to glass windows'or-other places where the said sheets are being displayed, and has for its primary object to produce a removable attaching means which will not inflict 1njury to the device upon which it is arranged or the article which it supports.
A further object of the invention is to produce a vacuum sticker or attaching device having integrally formed therewith a holding element for engaging with a card, sheet or the like, to support the latter, whereby such card or sheet may be attached or removed without interfering with the remainder of the device or its position upon the support. 3
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following description and falling within the scope of what is claimed.
In the drawings: v
Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the application of the improvement;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the improvement; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail the numeral 1 designates a card, advertising.
sheet or the like designed to be removably supported by the improvement.
he improvement is adapted to be removably attached to a window panetor the like and preferably comprises a member constructed ofpliable rubber gum to include a body 2 having its inner face flat and its outer portion rounded both longitudinally and transversely throughout the length thereof. The body 2, at one end thereof is thicker than at its other end, the thickened portion being indicated for distinction by the numeral 3, and the inner face of. the
thickened portion is formed with a cup-' shaped depression 4 that provides the vacuum cup of the device. The reduced portion of the body is indicated by the numeral 5, and
has upon its inner flat face, from theouter end thereof a series of concentrically arranged annular ribs 6 and depressions 7 between the said ribs. Between the cupshaped depression 4 and the rib 7 nearest thereto the flat under face of the body is formed with an in-cut portion 8 whereby the reduced portion 5 maybe swung away from the thickened portion 3, after the vacuum cup has been applied to a window or the like without destroying the vacuum, so that the sheet 1 may be'removed after the vacuum cup is attached to the pane. The corrugated surface defined by the ribs 6 and the depressions between the said ribs provides the device with what may be termed a roughened surface whereby the same will effectively engage with the sheet 1, and the in-cut or reduced portion 8 provides what may be termed a spring for the body be drawings, the simplicity and advantages of the construction will be readily apparent.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
A vacuum sticker. comprising an integral rubber structure providing a body having an inner flat face and an outer surface which is rounded both transversely and longitudinally, said body being thicker at one of its ends than at its other end and having its flat face, at its thickened portion formed with a cup-shaped depression, the said flat face, at the narrow portion of the body having spaced concentrically arranged ribs and having a transverse in-cut portion on its flat face between the outer P11) and the cupshaped epr'es sion whereby to provide a yieldable connection between the portions,
LEWIS MARION SMITH.
