CORSET-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,849, dated March 23, 1880.
Application filed January l0, 1880.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM MOCABE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corset-Steel Fastenings. of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a front View of my improve ment, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken through line x x, Iig. 1.
The object of this invention is to prevent the accidental separation ot' corset-Iastenings.
The invention consists in forming the hookplate with a spring tongue, as hereinafter shown and described, to prevent the accidental separation of the hooks and eyes after they have been fastened.
A B represent the steels of a corset, which are made in the usual Way. To one of the steels, as B, is attached a plate, C, upon the forward end of which is formed a hook, D, to hook into the eye E of a plate, F, attached to the other steel, A. The hook-plate C has an offset formed in it to receive the cloth of the corset.
In the body of the plate O is cut out a strip or tongue, G, which is bent outward, so that its free end may rest against the inner side of the hook Dto prevent the said hook from becoming accidentally unhooked. The hook C D and the spring G may be made in one piece, as shown in the drawings, or separate, as may be desired. I prefer to make them in one piece, as being less expensive in manufacture.
With this construction, should the steels A B be pressed together the edge of the eyeplateF will pass in beneath the spring G,
