Description

C. W. GODEFROY July 29, 1941.
COMBINED LABEL, CAP LOOSENER, AND AUXILIARY CONTAINER Filed Oct. 31, 1938 Patented July 29, 1941 COMBINED LABEL, CAP LOOSENEB, AND AUXILIARY CONTAINER Charles Webb Godeiroy, Clayton, Mo., assignor to Godefroy Manufacturing Company, St. Louis, Mo., a corporation of Missouri Application October 31, 1938, Serial No. 237,911
My invention relates to containers of the screw Claims.
cap type and has for its principal object to combine in a single device, a label, means for loosening the screw cap and an auxiliary container for materials to be added to the contents of the main container.
The invention is particularly applicable to bottles for containing a liquid hair dye to which is added, before use, a capsule containing powdered material. It is obviously desirable to have such capsules secured in some way to the main container so as not to be lost. Screw caps are sometimes difiicult to loosen from bottles and an object of the present invention is to provide a loosening means. A further object is to provide a conspicuous surface for descriptive or advertising matter taking the place of the usual paper label.
The invention consists principally in a metal strip having two body or label portions connected by a central perforated portion fitting under the screw cap,'one of said label portions having inturned flanges on its underside for slidably supporting a small container. The invention further consists in the label member or combined label, cap loosener and auxiliary container and in the parts and combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing,
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a bottle having applied thereto a combined label, cap loosener and auxiliary container embodying my invention,
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the upper portion of the bottle,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale on the line 3-3 in Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale on the line H in Fi 1,
Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the auxiliary container partly exposed,
Fig. 6 is a sectional view similar to Fig. 3 showing a modification; and
Fig. 7 is a top plan view of a further modification,
In the drawing there is illustrated a'glass or other bottle I whose neck 2 is threaded to receive a screw cap 3, there being a flat shoulder 4 at the bottom oi said threaded neck 2. Mounted on said neck 2 against shoulder 4 is the perforated central connecting portion 5 of my label device A, the lower edge of the screw cap resting thereagainst. Projecting downwardly from said central portion are inclined strips 1 that generally follow the angle of inclination of the upper portion 8 of the bottle. The upper or outer surfaces of said strips furnish space for suitable descriptive or advertising matter 8.
One of said strips 1 has inturned flanges lil on its underside in which rest flanges II on the upper edges of a metal or other container I2. The drawing illustrates capsules l3 in said container, such capsules being of the type containing powdered material to be added to the liquid portion of the hair dye.
In Fig. 6 is shown a modification in which the portion of the label under the screw cap has a roughened or corrugated upper surface 20 for increasing its friction grip on the screw cap.
In Fig. 7 is shown a modification wherein the label member has a third strip 30 adapted to contain descriptive or advertising matter and to be bent down against one wide side of the bottle.
Obviously the screw cap may be loosened by twisting the label member A, as by raising one of the strips and giving it a sharp jerk. It may be desirable to press on the top of the cap at the same time, so as to increase the friction grip between the cap and the label member. The capsules needed for addition to the liquid when the dye is to be used are permanently associated with the main bottle where they are always available when needed.
What I claim is:
1. A combined label and auxiliary container for bottles having necks comprising a perforated por-' tion for fitting over the neck of the bottle, a label portion projecting downwardly from said perforated portlOn and an auxiliary container secured to said label portion.
2. A combined label, cap loosener and auxiliary container for screw cap bottles having necks, comprising a. perforated portion for fitting over the neck of the bottle, label portions extending downwardly, one of said label portions having inturned flanges on its underside and an auxiliary container having flanges cooperating with said inturned label flanges.
3. In combination with a bottle having a threaded portion for receiving a screw cap and a. flat shoulder at the bottom of said threaded portion, a screw cap on said threaded portion, a combined label, cap loosener and auxiliary container comprising a. perforated portion fitting against said shoulder under said screw cap, downwardly extending label portions, one of said label portions having inturned flanges on its underside and an auxiliary container having flanges cooperating with said label flanges.
4. In combination with a bottle having a polygonal body and a threaded neck portion for receiving a screw cap and a flat shoulder at the bottom of said threaded portion, a screw cap on said thereaded portion, a combined label. cap loosener and auxiliary container comprising a perforated portion fitting against said shoulder under said screw cap, a plurality of downwardly extending label portions each disposed over a face 01 said bottle, one of said label portions having intumed flanges on its underside and an auxiliary container having flanges cooperating 10 with said label flanges.
said inturned label flanges.
