2 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in toy desk and seat structures.
An object of the invention is to provide a new and useful combined desk and seat particularly adapted for the use of. children;
A further object of the invention is to provide a combined desk and seat unit which may be readily knocked down and assembled as may be desired;
Further objects and advantages will be apparent from the following specification and description.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy desk and seat unit embodying my invention;
Figure 2 is a front elevation viewed from the left of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the same, and
Figure 4 is a detail on the line 4-4 in Figure 2.
Similar characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
The device illustrated in the drawing comprises a front standard I consisting of two spaced members 2 and 3, which are substantially vertical, with a slot 4 therebetween, and having a transverse groove 5 and a cross bar 6, below the groove 5.
A desk 1 is mounted on the upper ends of the members 2 and 3 and is provided with a marginal bead 8. The desk I is preferably secured to the members 2 and 3, comprising the standard I, by means of two spaced slats 9, 9, between which the upper marginal edge of the standard I is carried.
A bolt I is inserted through the slats 9, 9 and between the members 2 and 3 and carries a thumb nut I I threaded thereon whereby the slats 9, 9 may be drawn together to bind the end of the standard I therebetween.
The rear standard I2 comprises two spaced members l3, I4 with a slot l therebetween, and
having a cross bar I6 and a transverse groove II.
A bench top I8 is seated at its marginal ends in the grooves 5 and II respectively of the front and rear standards I and I2, and carries a seat I 9, and is further supported by a supporting piece 20, the ends of which are seated in the slots 4 and I5 of the standards I and I2 respectively. Seats 22 are formed in the lower marginal edge portion of. the supporting piece 20 and arranged to fit over the cross bars It and I6 respectively on the standards I and I2, and positioned to so hold the supporting piece 20 that its longitudinal ends will extend through and beyond the standards I and I2.
In that portion of the marginal ends of the supporting piece 20 which project beyond the standards I and I2, there are provided apertures 23 in which may be inserted wedge pins 24.
The several pieces and parts of the device may be knocked down and arranged compactly in a small space for storage, shipment and the like, as will be apparent, and may be readily assembled for use by seating the longitudinal ends of the supporting piece 20 in the slots 4 and I5 respectively of the standards I and I2, with the cross'bars 6 and I6 in their seats 22 and then laying thereon the bench top IS with its longitudinal ends in the grooves 5 and I! respectively.
The structure may be knocked down by reversing the several steps above mentioned.
For the purpose of giving greater stability to the device when assembled for use, I prefer to broaden the base by setting the standards I and I2 at an inclined angle converging slightly toward each other above the base.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a front standard and a rear standard, each of said standards comprising two spaced members, a bench top between the said standards and resting in grooves therein, a seat on said bench top, a supporting piece below the said bench top and extending between the spaced members of the said front and rear standards, cross bars on the said standards carrying the ends of the said supporting piece, wedge apertures in the marginal ends of the said supporting piece beyond the said standards, wedgesin said wedge apertures and adapted to bind the said standards to the said supporting piece and bench top, a desk top on the said front standard, a pair of slats arranged in parallel relation on the underside of the said desk top and adapted to receive the end of the forward standard and bolt means for binding the upper end of the forward standard between the said slats.

combination of a forward standard and a rear notches forming seats engaging said cross bars, standard, each comprising apair of spaced boards, a bench top on said supporting piece and seated cross bars on the said standards, a supporting at its ends in grooves in the said standards and piece resting at its ends on said cross bars and wedge means adapted to bind the said standhaving its terminals projecting between the said 5 ards to the said bench top and supporting piece. spacedboards of the said standards and having FERDINAND F. FERRARY.
