Description

4 Claims. (01. 16-125) The present invention relates to drawer or door pulls, especially such pulls as are made of two parts which may be of difierent materials, for example, a plastic molded part and a wrought metal part.
g The principal object of my invention is to provide a devic of this character which lends itself to. easy and economical manufacture, and in which the components supplement each other in strength, utility and appearance.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional plan view;
16 Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation, taken substandtially on the line 22 of Fig. 1, showing the pull applied to a portion of a drawer or door, the latter being shown in section;
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of one end portion of the metal member of the pull;
Fig. 4 is an end view of the pull with a portion of the drawer or door shown in section;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2; and
a Fig. 6 is a sectional elevation of the metal member and the plastic molded member of the device shown in partially assembled-positions.
The drawer or door pull illustrated in the drawing, comprises a metal member 2 and a member I which may be made of plastic molded material.
The metal member comprises a strip of metal of substantially cycloidal form having reduced ends providing shoulders 6 and lugs 8. These lugs 8 are bent inwardly and hav threaded holes Ill. The member 2 is further provided with a centrally located elongated opening l2.
The member 4 is of a form to mate with the metal member. The end portions of this member have recesses 14 and shoulders IS. The member 4 is further provided with an elongated projection I8 adapted to extend through and fit into the elongated opening I! when the parts are assembled.
The members 2 and 4 may be assembled into a 5 unit by sliding the metal member over the plastic member. During-such assembling, the lugs 8 enter the recesses H as indicated in Fig. 6 and ride down through the recesses until their rear sides are positioned flush with the rear ends of so the member 4. When the two members are thus assembled, shoulders E abut the shoulders 18 and the eilzongated protection I 8 extends through the slot The lugs l closely fit the recesses l4 and the 5 bottom portions of the walls of the recesses may be inclined slightly so as to insure tight sliding engagement between the lugs I and the recesses.
When the-parts are thus assembled, close fitting engagement between the lugs 8 and the recesses and the projection It in the elongated slot i2 firmly holds the parts assembledwith the shoulders 8 abutting the shoulders I 6.
The pull or handle when thus assembled may be applied to a door or drawer as shown in Fig. 2, and screws Illinserted which hold the handle 1 fast to the object to which it is applied and th components in firm assembly.
Thus in the preferred embodiment, as illustrated, the pull consists of a bo y portion made of a plastic molded material, and an overlying and interlocking metal portion. The plastic molded portion is shaped to provide a comfortable grip for the fingers, and a suitable bulk to permit styling and coloring to create a pleasing efiect. The metal portion is shaped to overlay and interlock with the plastic molded portion so as to provide means for attaching the handle to a door or drawer. Also, the metal portion reinforces the strength of the plastic molded portion as well as providing a medium for color relief through the various finishes available on metal.
As will be evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits various modifications without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a drawer or door pull of the class described, a metal member comprising a strip of metal shaped to a substantial cycloidal form with its ends of reduced width forming shoulders and 35 bent inwardly to form inwardly projecting lugs, said metal member having a centrally located elongated opening, and a plastic molded member of a form to fit the rear side of said metal member, said plastic member having a projection fitting in said elongated opening, shoulders abutting said shoulders on the metal member, and recesses in its end through which said lugs may pass in assembling the two members, said lugs being received in the rear ends of said recesses when the members are assembled.
2. In a door or drawer pull oi the class described, a metal member comprising a strip of metal having its end portions extending rearwardly and having its ends reduced in width to form shoulders and turned inwardly to form inwardly projecting lugs, and a plastic molded member formed to fit the rear side of the metal member and having shoulders on its ends abutting the shoulders on the metal member and having I recesses through which said lugs may pass in assembling said members.
3. In a drawer or door of the class described. a metal member comprising a strip of metal having its end portions extending rearwardly and having inwardly turned lugs on its ends, said metal member having a centrally located opening, and a plastic molded member formed to fit the rear side of the metal member having a pro- 0 Jection extending through and fitting said opening and having recesses in its ends through which said lugs may pass in assembling said members.
4. In a drawer or door pull or the class described, a metal member comprising a strip or metal having its end portions extending rearwardly, and having its ends reduced in width to term shoulders and turned inwardly to form inwardly projecting lugs, said metal member having a centrally located elongated opening, and a plastic member formed to lit the rear side of the metal member and having shoulders on its ends abutting the shoulders on the metal member and having recesses through which said lugs may pass in assembling said members.
