2 Claims.

The present invention relates to drawer pulls, particularly for furniture drawers, and has for an object to provide a pull of simple and inexpensive construction which may be easily attached to the furniture, and which lends itself to the carrying out of various designs of a modernistic character. In designs of this type the drawer pull is very often constructed of the same material as the drawer, that is, of Wood and appears to be an integral part of the drawer, rather than an attachment as is the case of ordinary drawer pulls. It is proposed to provide a pull construction which will enable this effect to be carried out, and at the same time will permit of the ready attachment or detachment of the pull. In this connection it is proposed to provide metal parts constituting a part of the structure and securing the pull in place, and which also combine with the wood or other material forming the body of the pull to produce an ornamental design. It is further proposed to make the metal parts and the body easily detachable with respect to the furniture and to each other so that they may be cleaned, Without danger of soiling the furniture, this being of particular importance in the case of metal parts that may become tarnished, especially where such metal parts are used upon light colored wood furniture.

A further object is to provide the metal parts, so that they will interlock with the pull body, and with each other, and will be rigidly secured in assembled relation simply by tightening of the attachment screw, which also secures the pull assembly to the drawer.

With the above and other objects in View, an embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, and this embodiment will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto, and the invention will be finally pointed out in the claims.

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the drawer pull, according to the exemplary illustrated embodiment of the invention.

Referring to the drawing, the drawer pull body I0 is in the form of an elongated strip of suitable material, as wood, bakelite, or the like, and is of any suitable cross-section depending upon the particular design. At each end it is recessed at its front face, as at H, the recess terminating at its inner end in a shoulder l2 which forms one extremity of the central panel portion of the pull, the other end of the recessed portion being rounded to the rear surface, as at I3, or otherwise suitably formed, depending upon the design. An aperture [4 extends through the end of the body portion in outwardly spaced relation to the shoulder l2 and is adapted to be aligned with the screw receiving hole I5 provided in the drawer l6.

Upon the surface of the recessed portion l I and its rounded end l3 there is engaged a metal plate U shaped to conform to the surface thereof, the inner end of this plate abutting the shoulder l2 and the upper and lower edges being flush with the upper and lower surfaces of the body portion l0. An aperture I8 is provided in the plate l1 in alignment with the aperture M of the body portion. The plate as shown is provided with a cutout along its end portion IQ for decorative purposes.

A U-shape clip member 20 is engaged over the plate I! and over the upper and lower surfaces of the body portion It to thus secure both itself and the plate I1 against movement relatively to the body portion. The vertical portion of this clip member is provided at its inner side with an interiorly threaded tube 2|, which is welded, brazed, soldered or otherwise suitably secured thereto, and which is adapted to engage through the aperture N3 of the plate I! and in the aperture M of the body portion, where it is engaged by the threaded end of the attaching screw 22, which upon being tightened secures the plate I! and clip 20 in place upon the body portion and secures the entire assembly to the drawer Hi. It will be understood that the body portion I 0, as well as the plate I! and clip member 20, may be varied in shape and have suitable surface ornamentation provided thereon.

I have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of the invention,

but it will be obvious that changes may be made therein, within the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentis:-

1. A drawer pull structure comprising a body member having an aperture, a clip member adapted to be engaged over said aperture to enclose it and adapted to engage the upper and lower surfaces of said body portion, threaded means on said clip member engaging said aperture, a plate member having a portion disposed between said clip member and said body member and having an aperture engaged by said threaded means, and a screw adapted to extend through said body member aperture from the rear to secure said clip member in place.

2. A drawer pull structure comprising a body member having an aperture and a shoulder inwardly spaced from said aperture, a clip member adapted to be engaged over said aperture to enclose it and adapted to engage the upper and lower surfaces of said body portion, threaded means on said clip member engaging said aperture, a. plate member having a portion disposed between said clip member and said body member and having an aperture engaged by said thread-ed means, the inner end of said plate membe'r abutting said shoulder, and a screw adapted ,to extend through said body member aperture iromthe rear to secure said clip member in place.
