2 Claims.
My present invention has to do with pull devices for handles, it being an object of the invention to provide a device of this character which may be readily and quickly installed on a door, drawer or the like, and then remain securely in place.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pull device so designed and constructed as to be conducive to economy of manufacture and installation as well as efficient use.
An additional object is the provision of a pull device with which the members providing anchoragefor the device to a door, drawer or the like are effectively concealed from View and exposure.
Other more particular objects and advantages will appear from the following description of a presently preferred embodiment of the invention wherein I refer to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the device attached to a structural member;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the device;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view;
Fig. 4 is a view of the parts of the device disassembled;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary section of parts of the device in course of being mounted on a structural member;
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig.5 but showing the parts finally mounted;
Fig. 7 is an end view; and
Fig. 8 is a section on line 88 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings I show at W a wooden structural member which may typify a door or the front wall of a drawer, and in which I provide a pair of round recesses R. My improved pull device generally consists of a U- shaped base member 5 and a U-shaped cover member Ill.
The base member 5 has end flanges l5 each provided with holes 16 having an enlarged diam- 2 bent so as to pierce the side walls of the recesses R as will be described.
The cover member I0 has an inner shape conforming to the outer surface of the base member so as to fit snugly thereagainst and has end flanges each of which has a depending lug whose diameter is substantially equal to the inside diameter of the ferrule into which it is to fit.
As best shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 8, the outer surface of the base member 5 may be provided with a groove 41 into which groove the cover member fits.
To install my pull device, the base member with its carried ferrules is first placed against the surface of the structural member with the ferrules projecting into the recesses R. The cover member Ill is then applied over the base member, its lugs 45 being forced into the respective ferrules to force the outer ends of the prongs into the side walls of the recesses. So mounted, the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1. It is then impossible to pull the device from the structural member since the force of the pull is applied to the undersurface of the base member to which the anchored ferrules are secured.
While, in the foregoing, I have resorted to considerable detail of structure and association of parts in describing a particular example of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I have done so merely to make my invention understood and that I do not limit my invention to such details. On the contrary, my invention is only to be limited as appears in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A pull device comprising a U-shaped base member having a laterally projecting flange at each of its ends, each of the flanges presenting an opening therethrough, a tubular radially expansible attaching element mounted in each opening and projecting from the base element, a U-shaped cover member conforming to and fitting over the base member and having its ends bearing against said respective flanges, and a lug carried by and projecting from each end of the cover member, said lugs extending into the respective attaching elements to radially expand the latter.
2. A pull device comprising a U-shaped base member having a laterally projecting flange at each of its ends, each of the flanges presenting an opening therethrough, a tubular radially expansible attaching element mounted in each opening and projecting from the base element, said base member having a longitudinal groove in its outer surface, a U-shaped cover member conforming to and fitting over the base member and having its ends bearing against said respective flanges, said cover member having a bottom portion fitting in said groove, and a lug carried by and projecting from each end of the cover member, said lugs extending into the respective attaching elements to radially expand the latter.
