SHUTTER-FASTENER.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 22,187, dated November 30, 1858.

To all whom i may concern:

.Be it known that I, JOHN ICGEHRAH, of the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Fastening Back VindoW-Shutters; and T do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The nature of my invention consists in providing a brace, attached by a pivot, to the under leaf of the lower hinge of an ordinary Window shutter, the brace, being so formed that it grasps a stationary nuta continuation of the axis on which the segment of the upper leaf revolves, and by a pin running through the brace at right angles With its plane, secures the brace to the upper leaf of the hinge, thereby preventing the shutter from blowing to.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention T will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I attach by a pivot A to the under leaf B of hinge C, the brace D (which may be made at pleasure, to turn, in order to embrace nut H hereinafter described) so constructed with anges E, E, that lit on a continuation of the axis on which the segment of the upper leaf L revolves, in the shape of a nut H. Brace D When grasping nut H is confined in its place by a pin K, the .said pin ruiming through the brace D, into the upper leaf L and at right angles With the plane thereof.

lVhat l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The application of the brace to tne under leaf of an ordinary hinge, and the nut, as a continuation of the aXis of the segment on which revolves the upper leaf of the hinge, which is secured by the brace, and the pin securing, the embrace of the brace and nut.
