Description
JOS. REYNOLDS, OF NEWV BRITAIN, CONNECITICUT.
CARPEE-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 21,365, dated August 31, 1858i.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH REYNOLDS, of the town of New Britain, county of Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Mode of Constructing Carpet-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a correct description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing andto the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar form and the method of fixing the same for room carpets.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The drawing-Figure l is' 3 views of the fastener. Fig. 2 the method of fixing on the floor with the part of carpet thrown back to see them.
I construct my carpet fastener of suitable metal in form similar to the plan Fig. 1*, A, B, O, made with one two or'more points. The single points are intended to go into the corners of the room, the double pointed ones are for the sides of the room. They are intended to screw down-to the oor nearly close to the wash board or base of the room as shown in plan Fig. 2, if necessary they are to be let into the floor so as not to project up quite so high. lIhe carpet is stretched up to and passed over the hooked points which penetrates through edge and holds it fast, and can be easily unhooked when the carpet is required to be taken up. The number of fasteners required must be regulated by circumstances, and quality of the carpet.
The utility of this fastener is its convenience and economy, being easily Xed, and will not tear or injure the carpet like nails.
1What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The hook and plate in one piece, as herein JOSEPH REYNOLDS.
