Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 2 19,214,v dated September 2, 1879 application filed April 23, 1879.

My invention consists of a garment constructed to form the back and front of a vest and the bosom of a shirt, and provided with shirt-sleeves, cuffs, and collar, constituting in one garment a vest and shirt, which I call a vest-shirt, as hereinafter more fully de scribed, andas shown in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the garment open. The entire front of the vest and shirt portions may be made of the same material, or the vest portion may be made of duck or any other suitable vesting, and the shirt portion of the front may be made of linen or other suitable material for shirt-fronts.
When the entire front of the garment is made of the same material, the vest rolls or lapels may be dispensed with, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
This garment dispenses entirely with the ordinary shirt-skirt, the design being to wear it over the undershirt in the place of the usual outer shirt and vest; and it is especially adapted for use by persons traveling a great deal and all persons requiring frequent changes of shirts and vests. It may be made at an expense of but little, if any, more than the -expense of either a shirt or vest made separate, and hence issaved nearly the whole cost of one of those garments; and this combined garment requires less room in packing than the two made separate, and the launder- I What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The vest-shirt having the vest-fronts A A and the shirt-fronts B B, and provided with the lapels b b, the separate shirt-fronts being attached to the vestfronts and left free at the lower parts to form an opening to receive the cravat, the garment being also provided with or adapted to receive the collar D, and having the sleeves O G, provided with or adapted to receive the ends 0 c, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. In a vest-shirt, the shirt-fronts B B, at-
